Engine Break In
Ok, so I've really been trying to give my new crate motor a proper break in. Have I went out and tried to push the pedal through the floor even though the paperwork said to avoid it? Sure I have, just a few times though.
I'm probably in to the motor about 300 miles or so now, so a little over 1/2 way through the recommended 500 mile break in time. What I'm wondering is, I really want to use the truck to pull my 18' car hauler trailer and go get a short wheel base frame that I found. All I'll have is the weight of the trailer plus the bare frame. I checked my trailer hookup today and everything seems like it'll work ok, so I'll have lights. I do not have any brakes hooked up for this truck though, but shouldn't really need them with basically an empty trailer. I'm just worried if I'd actually hurt a darn thing doing it during this supposedly critical break in time. What's everyone's .02 on the matter.

Re: Engine Break In
i think everyones opinion is going to be different on this but heres mine, i would say that you break in the motor to how you drive the vehicle, but i think on new trucks you need to put 500 miles on everything but, your motor is only new i would say tow with it.

Re: Engine Break In
Just vary your rpm and load on the trip and go get that frame.

Re: Engine Break In
Exactly as stated above. Vary your speed and it'll help the break in.

Re: Engine Break In
Do you break in a new truck when you bring it off the lot????? NO, or at least I have never heard of anyone doing it, GM never broke in the engines before they left the line.
My engine builder says after the first start up, and oil change, drive it like you are going to drive it. When you have an engine built and dynoed, what do they do to it???
