Exclamation Starting Issue - Help for a Friend!!

I have a friend stop an ask my opinion on a starting issue he's having with his 2000 3/4 ton. Since I am a better mechanic on older vehicles, I thought I'd ask you all, the experts!!

here's his email:

"had a problem with my truck starting and staying running. the security light would come on and stay on when I had the problem. within about an hour it would run fine. I had this problem on and off until I replaced the crank sensor. it ran fine for about two months and then I had the same problem. you can turn the key over and the truck would start and run for about a second then shut back off with the security light still on. then it would run fine an hour later. thank you for posting this on that forum for me"

Thanks for any help, gang. This is a good kid and I'd like to be able to help him.

Re: Starting Issue - Help for a Friend!!

Well I would unhook the battery and rehook it back up if he didn't do that. The unhooking of the cam sensor may have cause a security breach issue on his ECM. So maybe a reset of the battery connection may solve his problem. I would start there.
