Just another day hauling

Well I think I finally got the right combination now. Spent a couple of evenings this week in the shop making my 2x12 sides on the flatbed 26" tall from the bed floor. Construction is an entirely different story. I can take building a simple box and...well, at least it works! Thank goodness for air tools, mini-sledge and a level. Getting those stake-pocket 2x4's straight and level was a pain! I have yet to do a count on all the bolts, washers and nuts used in the two evenings spent on this project!

Will probably leave the new sides on for the winter then change it back to just 2x12 sides in the spring.

So today I did another wood run, this one being around 60 miles round trip, inside this October summer like day.

Now with the taller bed-sides it is 3 ricks of wood on the truck with 2 on the trailer instead of the other way around. By doing this and spreading the load on the trailer, instead of the majority weight sitting over that axle, it just rolled on down the road like a Cadillac packed for vacation and that single axle trailer was not "too over-weight". (one of these days I need to go over some scales when loaded like this just to satisfy my curiousity before DOT does) Yet still hopeful to find a short tandem to replace this trailer sooner than later.

Seriously, for this truck being 25 years old, it worked like a new one. Chevy tough and it really is built 'like a rock'. I am impressed!

Yet my original goal was to be able to road run for 5 ricks of wood at a time to keep transportation costs down per unit when and where I could find a good deal on wood for our winter supply. Finally this truck/trailer set-up can do it without tearing up the trailer in the process.

For what its worth, here is the link where I was running with just the 2x12 sides. Definitely hauls better this way.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=422288

This truck is a tank.

Re: Just another day hauling

Nice to see them working still. I have had mine weighed, when I do scrap runs. My record so far is 1.9 tons, would like to get it over 2 ton. This is in a stock 86 K30 SRW with a stake body.

Appreciate the compliment and really enjoy seeing the pictures of other working Chevy's. Love the show & go but nice to get a glimpse of those still doing what they were made for.

This cab & chassis was equipped with the 350 along with the SM465 4spd manual trans. Appears to be built to be a slow and steady worker which is exactly what it is. Could pull a house down with that low gear.

Guess I'm getting hooked on these square bodies now as I always take notice of the ones I do see.
