1990 700r4 tranny shift question

I have a 1990 c1500 with a 5.7-700r4 combo. It has 108k for mileage.I drove the truck back from alabama with no problems other than when you take off from a dead stop,it shifts through the gears quick. From stopped it shifts out normal at around 15-20 mph(firm shift) and then drops directly in to 3rd no matter how fast you are going(no slipping, just shifts). If you push down on the throttle it takes a lot of pedal effort to get it to upshift and then it just drops back to third.Whether I have it in OD or 3 on the shifter,it does the same.I have adjusted the tv cable several times to see maybe if I had done it wrong but makes no difference.Do these cables stretch and if so wouldn't that affect all gears?Anyone have any ideas where to start looking.I hope to be able to overhaul the tranny right after the new year but just trying to see if it is a minor fix. Thanks for any directions,Richie

I did try search by the way

Get another governor and throw in it just to see, mine was going something similar and we changed that because the springs in it were weak. It helped out a bunch.

Re: 1990 700r4 tranny shift question

While changing my oil the other day I was laying there looking up and noticed the black plastic loom had broken into many pieces for the tranny harness.I started taking it off and noticed I had a wire rubbing on the tranny case.Pulled it away and saw it had a small area it rubbed through and I guess the TCC had grounded out against the case.I pulled it away and took it for a drive and it is like a new truck. Can't believe I didn't find it sooner.I need to replace the whole harness, plug and all because the insulation has softened up and crumbled. Here I was planning for a tranny rebuild..........................

Saved yourself some big bucks. That's always a good feeling. Be careful with that tv cable adjusting. It has to be right or trans failure is eminent.

Yea x2 if they are not dead on they will toast a tranny real fast! That's awesome though that it was something simple and cheap compared to buying a new tranny or doing a rebuild.
