MSD ignition wired directly to battery.
Is this a problem?
I can't find a good isntallation manual online but my MSD ignition system is powered directly from the battery (assuming that means it's always hot) is this proper, and if not proper is it dangerous in any way or bad for the ignition/truck/starving pygmies in guam? I figure it should be on ACC power and not full 12v constant but I'm not sure so I figured I'd come here and ask Thanks in advance for the help. |

Re: MSD ignition wired directly to battery.
Not sure which model you have, but here are some schematics for the 6 series. The few I looked at all have a hot going directly to the battery.

Re: MSD ignition wired directly to battery.
I think it should be hot with the key on. Not hot all the time.

Re: MSD ignition wired directly to battery.
I have had both the 6 and the 7 series and both were wired directly to the battery per the manufacturers instructions.

Re: MSD ignition wired directly to battery.
I believe there is a wire that does go to battery and another trigger wire you wire to your ignition switch. Nice little semi-theft deterrent is to run a toggle switch or similar in line with the ignition wire and put it within reach but out of site.

Re: MSD ignition wired directly to battery.
The 6 series box is supposed to be wired directly to the battery, both the hot and the ground sides; so says MSD in their instructions.
For my bona fides, I have a 6 series box on my '69.

Re: MSD ignition wired directly to battery.
I jumped mine off the fuse block on the side, works perfect and it's inches from the battery. The positive wire running from the postive lead to the box is easy and no splicing or cutting, no wire to fall off when you disconnect. Take the white wire from the box run into a hidden place an wire to toggle switch for on off to disable ignition. Mine is hidden away along with a fuel cut off. One excellent benefit of MSD and you can't jump any wire to the starter or coil, you won't have ignition unless you can figure out were it grounds which will buy you time.
