Celebrity headlights in suburban fron ends

I read on another thread that the headlights from an 87 celebrity will fit in the suburban front ends to get a single headlight to match the bottom. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and how much trouble is it? Thanks

Re: Celebrity headlights in suburban fron ends

Headlight example

Instructions:
"good day guys. i did that swap only i used the 1987-1990 chev celebrity headlamps. they are flat on the back so all you have to do is make a cardboard template for the back line up the lamp for the center of the openning start cuttting. then cut the center post out from between the headlamps start trimming around until they fit over the celeb lamps. my truck at the time was an 1984 one duelly crew cab i was using for haulling the race car. it was worth the effort and the time as the comments after the change just kept coming and still does to this day as a friend asked the other day how to do the change on his jimmy.

you will need for the change over
2-1987-1990 chev celebrity headlamps comeplete with backers and mounting clips
(DO NOT USE THE GMC PIECES AS THESE HEADLAMPS DO NOT FIT)
2-1989-1991 chev blazer/suburban headlamp door
1-1989-1991 chev blazer/suburban grill
2-1989-1991 chev blazer/suburban turn signals
you can use your rad support and all the screws will screw right into the new grill and head lamp doors. you will have to make a small spacer for the turn signal lamps and use longer screws here i used small pieces of fuel hose for spacers. in all it will take about three hours to do the first headlamp and about thrity five minutes to do the rest. i was a little nervice to cut the first one then it was no turning back on the rest ie(35min).

good luck "

I'll have to look really close at my grill.

Re: Celebrity headlights in suburban fron ends

Anyone got any pics of this swap? I thought the Chevy and GMC bezels and turn signals were the same. I have had both Chevy and GMC grilles swapped on my truck.

Re: Celebrity headlights in suburban fron ends

Gchemist. Thanks for the info. Do you have any pics of you truck with them on? I found a set at the junk yard and they want 70 for the set. I may try to see of they'll take 50 for the pair. I doubt there's alot of people trying to restore celebritys. What part of Austin do you live in?

I live in South Austin. On a good day, you'll find me tearing up Slaughter and Manchaca. My truck has a 91 Chevy front end. I'll have to look close for cutting. I don't plan on doing the conversion. I'm just curious. I like the four side by side headlight look.

Crazy. I live on south first between slaughter and ditmar. I don't know how I haven't seen that truck running around. I'll keep my eyes pealed.

I've seen your truck. You live down the street from Ditmar park, right? I go down the street all the time. I have a good friend down the street from the recreation center.

Re: Celebrity headlights in suburban fron ends

Day late and a dollar short...

I was wondering if the one peice headlights from a late 80's to early 90's Impala or Caprice with the "Euro" package would work with the 89-91 Burb grills?

I have seen what I thought were the Celebrity HL's on a truck before and they didn't seem to match the bezels very well. There was a noticable gap around the HL's.

Re: Celebrity headlights in suburban fron ends

back to the headlights

truckin mag did a wright up in the early 90's on how to do this with pictures and everything. also the boxed body capric/ impala head lights work. you have to modify the mounting bracket of the headlight its self (if I remember right)
and you can use the single headlight core support but it takes a little more modify'n if I remember with a little cutting and drilling its a basic bolt in swap

and it looks cool and you can run some bright a$$ bulbs also
