could I get a little more info on my 454 stuff?

I tore down my 454 today, well it is actually a 468...

It has Speed Pro Hypereutectic Pistons. Part # H581CP They are dome top and have the place where the valves go.

I am putting a set of 781 casting heads on it and was wondering what kind of compression ratio I was going to have? Any help on this is appreciated.

Also the engine has been balanced. Someone told me today I need the harmonic balancer and flywheel that goes with that crank or it will tear my bearings up. Is that true? Are the flywheel and harmonic balancer balanced along with the crank? Because I don't have them.

If you need more info to give me an answer just let me know. Thanks

You really should have the crank balanced with those two. You can run it just putting them on but may not last long. IMO, take it to a shop, have them go through it and rebuild it. A few hundred is cheap insurance.

The harmonic balancer and flywheel that came on my motor are on my dads crate motor he just put in his truck. I guess I should take them back then huh?

Any work done on the heads? possibly milled the bottom of them so that would change the stock chamber volume. No part # on the pistons makes it impossible to be accurate. If all you have is a short block go ahead and spend the little cash on a tear down and rebuild. even if your changing heads out and its not in a vehicle, get it done.

Piston part # is H581CP. No work done to the heads. They are stock.

Re: could I get a little more info on my 454 stuff?

The motor has a xe268 in it now but I think I will go ahead and step up to the 275.

Re: could I get a little more info on my 454 stuff?

Just as a follow up: I talked to the builder today and he told me I should be fine on the balance. He said if it was going to be hitting high rpm's or going in a race car he would rebalance it. But, I won't be turning over 5500 rpm's probably. He thought I would be just fine. Thanks for your help guys
