coil spring rear axle swap

was thinking of putting a GM CORP14bolt axle in rear of my truck which is coil spring, has anyone does this? the reason im asking is how do i mount the panard bar?
also is their a special mount plate between trailing arm and axle? i don't see one. i posted a pic so if anyone sees anything that may complicate the swap.
thanks in advance!

Re: coil spring rear axle swap

well yes I have ... and added some other options as well.

You can use a stock style panhard bar bracket that ext off the rear tube ... you will just need to have some welding done on the axle tubes, as you may still be able to see in the pics , the bad cut piece, and the other mounts to the factory location on the frame. I had to cut mine to add a new pre-bent CPP panhard bar because of my Super Mag-Hytech diff cover. But I have to tell ya I really like this full floater on this truck.

Sorry I don't have any pics prior to the latest change.

Re: coil spring rear axle swap

sweet that was fast! that's exactly what i needed to see! i was thinking of creating a new mount by welding in some 3/8" steel my dad has or should i go thicker? also did u need axle tube mounts for the trailing arms? it looks like in your pic just a flat piece of steel between axle tube and arm

Re: coil spring rear axle swap

No I picked up some tube saddles online some where and had them put on with the panhard bar bracket, and that was made from 4 pieces of flat steel we had layin around, and forming the bolt point for the bushing

And if you make one, make sure you measure the distance away from the tube that will be needed to clear your diff cover through both up and down travels.

How far are you going with the rear end just a outright swap or upgrading at the same time, gears, brakes, etc. ?

Re: coil spring rear axle swap

pretty much just an outright swap, ive got 5.13's right now and the 14 bolt is 4.10. bet i can get better speed and mpg outa the 4.10s and i have to do new rear brakes anyways so figured while at it i might as well swap to a higher geared axle while at it plus this GM14 has a locker.

Re: coil spring rear axle swap

about 2700rpm@50mph and 3200+rpms@60 i really never go above 50 as i don't like stressing my wallet(mpgs) and the motor 292I6 aren't really hi rpm motors ive hauled over 2800lbs in the bed and towed about 6000lbs(bobcat tractor w/trailer) while carrying 1500lbs of cinder blocks, i got a weight receipt somewhere i got pulled over by a statie cop think i was with trailer about 11700lbs 11734 exact i believe its how the trucks gotten its name "the beast". i almost don't want to do the axle swap cause i love the truck as is but....i need some highway abilitylb

Re: coil spring rear axle swap

alrighty i know it been a while ive been busy with 2 jobs getting a new house for our new arrival but finally got the 14 bolt off my uncle for free! i may buy a panhard bar, but might make one so my question is, which is better a longer or shorter panhard bar? i'd imagine a longer one would provide better leverage and smoother action, but maybe shorter is best? i'll be moving the mounts in either case to ensure proper rear end location no matter bar length. also is that a fully floating axle? im used to the big hubs sticking out its out of a 87 1 ton so i'd imagine its full floater.
thanks guys

I put the same rearend in my truck. it has a 3:23 gear ratio. I used ccp mounts and adjustable panhard bar-they have a kit for around $125 I think
