Cool 72 Suburban

I am looking a buying a 1972 Suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 350 / 350 runs good but has big dent and rust in pass rear quarter. The rockers will need work somebody covered them with bondo.

I will also need to replace the following parts;
front pass inner and outer fender (rust)
radiator support (rust)
battery tray (rust)
rear lift gate cracked around hinges and rust.
both front cab supports have rust thats about 2 inches from the rockers.

The good parts are rebuild rear end
350 trans is great shape shift very nice no slipage
350 engine runs good

WHAT is a good price for this in Southern California?? I can get it for $1,200

Thanks
Tom

Sounds like alot or rust for a cali truck. Honestly, since you'r in cali. I think I'd hold onto my cash untill something cleaner comes along.
paint and body is the single most expensive aspect of rodding/restoration. Get teh best body you can possibly afford, and you'll be ahead in the end.

Thats my main problem I can only spend around $1,200 to 1,300 max right now.
I plan to do my own welding if I fix it. I already mave the mig welder just need to learn to use it better.

BTW I guess I should also say I am going to use this as a daily driver but the main reason for the 4x4 suburban is 4 kids, camping and shooting.

thanks
Tom

I have been told by the end of may repo quarter panels,or at least path panels will be availible. I agree with longhornmail, that sounds like a lot of rust for a socal truck.Check with some venders to get an idea what replacement parts will cost.

RUST BAD!!!! its more work to fix then it looks. Cost more to fix then to get one with a better body. If you need something now and dont really care what it looks like then I would see if they would take less.

I just talked with the guy and he would not take my $900 affer and said the lowest he would go was $1,100.

I guess I should wait and keep looking. I would like a Blazer more but a Suburban would also be nice.

I just need to hid the $$$ from my wife and kids or it will be gone in 2-3 weeks.

I paid $100 for me lemans. Needed both quarter panels, and fenders. I halfed assed the job and was able to get it done under $1000 but it looks like ****. I have to replace one fender and redo the quarters again. If you are looking for a driver and not a restorer then invest your money and save and buy one that doesnt need much work.

My Suburban that I have had for maybe 4 months, I paid $1500. Said it had a 4 bolt crate 350 with 20,000 miles. 4 speed, dual ac, power steering, power brakes. Has one bad spot of rust, some of the drip rail is rusted. Nothing that really scares me in fixing.

I would look around and see what else is avaible. Check back with the guy in a few days or weeks and see if he still has it. If he does then maybe he will take a lower offer. If you have never done body work then I would say find another one.

my $.02
