Re: when was the last time you had your old truck sideways?

Last night, I just got the new transmission and wanted to see how it was with the shift kit. Got it sideways from a stop sign out in the country, and good call on power steering, I was looking at the ditch also.

Driving the 71 home from work in the rain and a new Kia decides to stop right in front of me. Locked em up and slid around it sideways and through the stop light! You know the guy in it was crapping himself, I know I was.

I got on mine leaving the carwash and ended up facing west in the east bound lanes. It was pretty embarassing.

Re: when was the last time you had your old truck sideways?

Last June, while on the Hot rod Power Tour, in the mountains, outside of Bowling Green, Kentucky, at 9:45 in the morning. It was a rainy day and some cool dude with a Camaro stopped in front of me and I saw the mountain side, then the valley below through the windshield. I straightened it out and stopped to clean poop with a big shovel. Thos damn roads are only a lane and a half wide---I took it all for a short period.

Re: when was the last time you had your old truck sideways?

I did some donuts in mine a few weeks ago at an offroad area me and my son ride dirtbikes and quads at. I did slide it sideways when turning at a stop sign a couple of days ago, Gotta love the locker in the Dana 60! In the rain I can keep it sideways until it hooks up doing about 60 MPH.

Re: when was the last time you had your old truck sideways?

I was driving home from college about three weeks ago. It was night, rainy, and I was going over a turny mountain pass I've driven over probably two hundred times. Anyways, took a long off-camber left-hander and hit it too hard coming out, went sideways, caught it in time, felt it snap back the other way, all while three cars were coming in the other lane. I saved it, continued on my merry way, about 30 seconds later, I came to a bunch of S-turns where police were setup--a Dodge Caliber had spun right off the road into a grove of trees.

Re: when was the last time you had your old truck sideways?

Last winter trying to drive to my dad's house on icy roads in my '71. Got to a hill and started going up it, rear end kept stepping out and I went up the hill more sideways than straight. Turned my butt around and slowly went home after that.

sort of gets sideways during left hand turns. Sort of alternates power transfer left and right, open carrier..
right turns is just one skid

Re: when was the last time you had your old truck sideways?

The brake peddle doesnt seem to get me into too much trouble......its the skinny peddle on the rh side that causes the problems I cant say about rain or snow(that might be a bit squirrley), my old truck hasnt seen either in 26 yrs. Primered "garage queen". The old 383 runs good, but I keep goofin on the turbo 5.3 burnout crazyAL

Re: when was the last time you had your old truck sideways?

A while back in early winter and the first vehicle to drive through about 1" of falling snow on straight open road and a mild downhill grade, felt that my speed was a bit too much, so lifted the throttle and found the 70 C20 with T350 and POSITRACTION gently but surely go into a sideways slide. No braking involved yet, but am wondering why this truck is now past sideways and starting to finish the circle - still on the 2 lane but going to the left and the junipers. As it came almost full circle got lightly on the brake and finally managed to get it going straight, but toward the left roadside - would not turn a bit due to slide. Managed to get it stopped with the help of a bushy low tree - no damage at all, which was great because this is a really nice rust-free original condition truck.

The POSI enabled me to get it backed out and back on the road, but I was totally mystified about the cause and thought abut it all day and more. Later read some materials on the matter and found out that this type of event, under such conditions, can be quite common in one of our trucks with 2WD, a light back end and POSI, due to some factor involving the POSI function. The truck is now with my son and because slippery roads can be common where he lives, I gave him a full rundown on this propensity and the event.

Has anyone else experienced this type of thing?

Re: when was the last time you had your old truck sideways?

A possi slides sideways because the traction while spinning is not good, sintrifical force pulls it sideways. The same thing happens when on slick roads if you loose traction on the rear when slowing or braking. Both wheels slip and the truck slides one way or the other depending on the slope of the road. The wheels don't even have to be stopped for this to happen. Just turning slower than the truck is traveling. WES
