Who makes the best C-Notch Kit

I'm looking to C-Notch my 63 Fleetside.
I have adone some research and there are a couple places that have C-Notch kits but I'm unsure on who makes the best for the buck.

The rear of my truck doesn't sit low enough for me.
The plan is to have 18's in rear when I'm done.

Re: Who makes the best C-Notch Kit

CPP also makes a heavy duty notch for those who intend to tow. This is the most HD notch I've heard about; dont know if it's neccessary for what you're doing.

Re: Who makes the best C-Notch Kit

I think the best ones I have seen posted anywhere and likely the most heavy duty ones are the Porterbuilt ones. Seems like maga beefy. The ones I am looking to buy.

Re: Who makes the best C-Notch Kit

I guess it depends on what your standard is for "best". Are you talking about ease of installation or strength of the product?

Porterbuilt has a 2 piece design which eases installation.

CPP has a 3/8" thick kit, as discussed above by Protrash. CPP states that this kit is designed for people that plan to use their trucks for towing.

Bell Tech also has a kit that inlcudes an inner brace. http://www.belltech.com/flipcsectionkits.php

I don't think (please correct me if I am wrong) any manufactures have any test data that backs up the actual strength of their kits vs. a stock original frame. As an Engineer this is my primary concern: Is the kit as strong or stronger than the stock frame. This was discussed at length at the following thread, look at post #59 for a notch that is as strong as a stock frame: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ighlight=notch

Re: Who makes the best C-Notch Kit

Ya'll need to be aware that c notches weaken the frame unless sufficient vertical steel members are added to maintain the original structural integrity.

Don't shoot the messenger, I merely am posting here because you need to know this if you plan to haul or tow with a c-notched truck.

As I eluded to above I have yet to find a vendor that certifies that their kits are as strong or stronger than the stock factory rails.

Check out the following thread as it helps to explain what is needed to maintain "factory" strength: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ighlight=notch

A notch can be made that meets or exceeds factory strength. But don't take any vendors word for it unless they have the calculations and actual testing to prove it. Ask for a document that states "We certify that our c-notch kit meets or exceeds original factory frame strength for hauling and towing capacity."

10% off for board members, cool guy to deal with, and shipping is quick, just in the process of notching my frame, easy install, beefy product, happy with it, just need to drill a couple holes and it's in

Re: Who makes the best C-Notch Kit

I used the kit from brothers. Bought it about 2 or 3 yrs ago and it still looks as good as it did the day i put it on. I did however paint the frame after installation so that helps. Wasn't to hard just time consuming. The part i had the trouble with most was removal of the factory rivets.

From what I understand ,unless your drop is more than 6" you don't need to c-notch.

Re: Who makes the best C-Notch Kit

If I notch about halfway in the frame I can drop about 5.5" in the rear. The rear coil springs are cut now so its already lower that stock. Im not looking to lay rockers, just to get a nice rake to it when lowered. Im going drop it at least that much in the front also.

Bump for more pictures of 60-63 C-notch trucks. Anyone know the frame weight difference with 60-63 and the 64-66 c10?
What material are you guys using for the home built C notch?

Those notches (the ones on the truck) look like they are home made and there isn't enough frame at the top of the notch. I don't know what that thin strip of metal is supposed to do. It could just be the angle of the picture but I don't know...
