Question What have you done with interior after tank removal?

Title pretty much sums it up...after moving the gas tank from the cab, what has everyone done to "finish" the job? All I have seen is carpet kits to cover a tank, but nothing to cover the back wall of the cab with no tank in place.

A Texan and two Canadians walk into a thread...

Sorry, couldn't help it. But yes, pics would be faaantastic! For what it's worth, I'm talking more about just basic upholstery work, not stereo equipment. All my audio will be under the seat, not behind it, so I'm curious what people have done to make it look "presentable."

Heres what I did...put something in front of it. I cant remember, but someone else took some plywood and carpeted it and attached it to the back. Looked very clean.

hahahaha I hadn't actually thought about this until you posted this thread, already have the filler hole patched so hopefully some good pics come in, not a big stereo guy either, but if it were done nicely I could make the neighbors hate me some more with even louder country than I play already

My stereo will be one of the major parts of my build, but I'm trying to limit it to under-seat only (just got my 12" Pioneer shallow mount sub in the mail today!), saving behind the seat for whatever else I might wanna cram back there. Admittedly, I haven't pulled my tank yet (Blazer tank on order as we speak), just trying to get a jump on the thinking here...(cause that's all I need, something else to build in my mind instead of falling asleep)...

So far I'm thinking about a carpet or vinyl covered piece of fiberboard (like peg board, sans holes), but until I pull my tank or see what others have done, I don't really know what kind of "shapes" I'll be needing to create, and hence not 100% on what material I'll be working with. I'm also thinking of making custom door panels out of the same or a similar material, so it could work out well to make this piece and them at the same time and tie it all together.

Re: What have you done with interior after tank removal?

I am interested in seeing what others have done as well. I haven't even seen a carpet kit that goes all the way to the back wall.

Check out another question I have posed in this thread:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=426572

Look at 1ATony's post and link. On their website they tell you to make a note or tell your salesperson if you have removed the gas tank so that they can cut the carpet longer. I haven't spoken to them yet, but it seems like that's the way to go...

Thanks, good to know. I didn't catch that when I read that post the first time.

I think it shows that info when you actually put the carpet "in your cart" on the website. Or maybe just on the product info page, can't remember. But anyway, definitely good to know that it's an option from one of the vendors. Very competitive price, too.

I'm surprised no one makes a drop in kit with everything you need to "fill the void" (aesthetically, not physically) after you pull the interior tank. Or at least if they do, I haven't seen one. Although, I kinda like having to do something somewhat custom instead of just being able to mail order everything. Hey, that's what we're here for isn't it?

Re: What have you done with interior after tank removal?

Sorry, no pics. I cut a sheet of 1/4" masonite the width of the back wall of the cab and cut the height so it would be a tight fit. Covered it in black carpet to match the rest, then glued it to the back wall of the cab. Then cut two pieces for the corners, covered them in black carpet and mounted 6 x 9 speakers in them.

Why not just move the seat back and make some room in these cramped cabs?

Re: What have you done with interior after tank removal?

I had the interior shop make a panel to go back there. The ones on the sides have 6x9 speakers in them. He just covered it with leather. I like the way it turned out. It finished the interior off.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Well believe it or not, the seat is already as far back as it will go as is even with the tank. If you look at the clearance between the seat and back wall, youll know what I mean. I wish it did being 6'3" myself

Taking the tank out of one of these trucks will not give you any more leg room. The seat back hits the upper part of the cab where the window is. The only reason for removing the tank is smell of gas in the cab and for me I didn't like the fuel pump in the tank behind my seat.
The body panel above the speakers will not let a seat go back any farther. If you could come up with a way of removing it and then you could get more leg room.
