Oil Pressure

Well I have a 98 Silverado Z71 EXT. It has the 5.7 liter in it with 103,000 on it now.

I was driving to work and the Oil Pressure is at 43 then when I brake the oil pressure drops down to about 30 or so when I'm not on the gas. Is this a known problem and should I bring it in to gix it?

Re: Oil Pressure

As long as you have 10psi at idle and about 10psi per 1000 rpms, you're fine.
The only thing you really need to watch on your engine is the intake manifold gaskets. They'll all eventually leak, question is whether they'll leak out onto the intake manifold/cylinder head or into the crankcase where the antifreeze breaks the oil down and you end up with an engine in the death throes of a rod knock. Fel-Pro makes a great replacement gasket, a lot of guys swap 'em out before the trouble starts and save themselves a lot of time and money.

How hard are they to replace and also where do you get a Fel-Pro Replacement Gasket?

Re: Oil Pressure

I'll find the P/N and post it back here.
The good ones have metal compression stops to prevent over-tightening.
This is about a half-day job for most of us, mechanics in my area charge $250 plus parts which ain't bad. As long as you mark the distributor and don't turn the engine over, it's not hard to restab in the right place. That's about the only "technical" part of the swap, the rest is just wrenchin'.
