picture of tank
just an update on my 68. putting together a fuel tank. I didn't like the way the blazer tanks hang down, so started this aluminum tank. It is 10" deep instead of 14". Just finished welding up the box tonight. Will build the filler tube after visiting the kansas city car show this weekend. And thats what I've been up to, how bout you...

Great start. I've been think of doing my own tank after seeing what the custom tanks cost. What are you using for a fuel pickup and sending unit? In tank pump? Larry

That's sweet as hell! I love the baffles.
Personally I would put in an in-tank pump, or at least make provisions to do so at a later date. You never know when its fuel injection time.

I've considered this. Even talked to a buddy that has all the welding certifications you could ask for except maybe underwater. He mentioned a little issue of DOT approved materials, and I think welds.
Any consideration on this front?

looks good! Mine is very similar to what you're doing. If I had it to do over, the only thing that I'd do differently would be to reposition the filler neck. Mine has an elbow coming off the top and I could have raised it another 2 inches if I'd thought to have it coming out of the side, up close to the top instead.

Sorry for the late replies, just got logged on again since Friday.
Larry, the sending unit I will use is out of a mid seventies chevy p/u tank, with slight mods, (shortened pickup tube and bent float rod), to fit this shorter (shallow) tank Slammed67, I live in Wellington (ks) your ride is great. I have been checkin all your pics you post of it. Did you go to the car show this weekend and see that 62 biscane? I was drooling Blue 68, I have never thought about dot approval, I am not sure any after market tank is. Now I am courious. Dandeluxe, That must be one high dollar tank. very nice

Kid,
What are you using to mount the sender and pickup unit? Do those just sit on top of the tank with a gasket? Since seeing this I started looking for parts and pieces for tanks but haven't found much. Anyone know of any web site that has tank parts, namely the in tank pumps and sending units for TBI units? Larry
