Front caliper brake line bolts.. where to get
I just noticed how rusted my bolts are the attach the front rubber brake hose to the caliper. I didn't see them listed im LMC. Any idea where to get them? 1/2 72 dana.

Check out www.speedwaymotors.com.
They have great prices. I would also think you could get them locally at your auto parts stores.

Re: Front caliper brake line bolts.. where to get
Pre 79 banjo bolts are SAE thread and are NOT in any regular parts store. The 79+ banjo bolts are metric and can be found everywhere cheap. I got my SAE banjo bolts from GMCPauls for $10 each plus shipping. Zoniks! That was an expensive set of banjo bolts.
You can try to find the SAE banjo bolts locally, but ALL mine fell flat. Box store and the "good" stores. The hose, the bolt, and the caliper have to match SAE or Metric, but either should mount on the spindles. I just wish I had known this before I speced out 1978 calipers and hoses.

You can also put 80 and up calipers, hoses and bolts on the pre 79 spindle... I paid $11 each for rebuilt calipers... Only change I could see was the metric vs SAE

We did run into a length issue with the bolts on dad's 77 GMC K15. The ones the parts store lists for most pre 79 GM applications are 7/8" long with a 7/16"-20 thread. But the old bolts from his truck were longer. Test fitting one of the 7/8" long bolts showed only about 1/8" to 3/16" of thread sticking through the hose end fitting to screw into the caliper. They would have stripped out before tightening enough to seal the copper washers. Evidently some of these trucks have thicker caliper fittings on the ends of the brake hoses than other GM vehicles. So I did a little checking and found some 1-1/16" long banjo bolts with the same 7/16"-20 thread. They're Dorman-HELP! brand #13938 listed for Chrysler applications. The 7/8" long ones listed for GM applications are Dorman-HELP! #13935 Last edited by ray_mcavoy; 10-22-2010 at 10:21 PM. |

Re: Front caliper brake line bolts.. where to get
Took me a long while to find the right bolt and #13938 was it! I just wish it had the tophat style head, cranking the hex head on a copper washer just doesn't seem right to me.
