67/68 Core Support On A 69-72 Frame Q?

I've never crossed this bridge before.I'm building a '67 GMC-lookin' truck off a '71 frame.I figured the core support mounting kit should be a 67/68 type for the correct bushings to get the right height off the frame.I'm wondering what people do about the bigger holes in the frame brackets on a 69-72,since the 67/68 washers are about the same size as the holes.I figure just find bigger diameter fender washers or make plates. Is there a simple commonly done solution I don't know about?

good question and probably FAQ fodder when it's answered

Re: 67/68 Core Support On A 69-72 Frame Q?

Anythong can be done, right? I mean,I could weld the wholes in with correct 67/68 diameter or even pirate brackets off a 67/68.I tend to take the hard road when I could have ask directions for a straight shot. So,here I go! I see a lot of 67/68 clips swapped onto late frame.Tell this lazy boy whatcha do.

cut the '69-'72 rubber mounts down to the proper thickness, which is about 3/4" compressed

Re: 67/68 Core Support On A 69-72 Frame Q?

from what I have read here you are suppose to match the bushings to the frame and not the sheetmetal. 69-72 frame uses 69-72 bushings regardless of sheetmetal.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=4243502 here's a link to a post on similiar question.

Re: 67/68 Core Support On A 69-72 Frame Q?

That one answer that says all supports are the same is wrong. The 69-72 core supports are shorter top to bottom. This is due to the 67/68s having a splash pan,I believe.I've been told by experts to go with what core support you are using.Cutting down the later bushings does sound like a good way to go.It figures I'd end up with 2 67/68 mount kits and no 69-72s.

Re: 67/68 Core Support On A 69-72 Frame Q?

Not sure if this will help but a 67-68 core support on a 69-72 will work for everything but your headlight alignment and bezel around the headlight. These will be to high, as mentioned because of the 69-72 are shorter top to bottom.

Now ask me I how I know...

Re: 67/68 Core Support On A 69-72 Frame Q?

If I remember correctly, I built a '71 with a 67/68 front clip and ended using the 71's core support. I think I just drilled out the welds and removed the 69/72 headlight buckets. I might of messed with the mounting bushings, but I don't remember. I used the 67/68 hood latch. I do remember it was no trouble to do. Bolted on the fenders and the hood, I reused the headlight hardware, but had to shorten the adjuster screws.

Re: 67/68 Core Support On A 69-72 Frame Q?

I put a 68 clip on a 72 frame and used 72 core support bushings with no problems....... sheetmetal lined up perfectly
