Where to buy low rust trucks.

I am preparing to purchase a restorable 69-72, loaded daily driver that I have not yet shopped for. I am in Atlanta and all our stuff is rusty, and expensive.

I am asking what states have the lowest rust and would be closest to Atlanta for me to shop in using craigslist. I can ride my motorcycle out there buy one, and put the bike in the truck and drive the truck back..

Suggestions?

Robert in Atlanta.

I was thinking Colorado would have salt on the roads that would promote rust. I also thought about SW Texas from Big Bend to Lubbock? I am thinking that they are cheaper out there, have less rust, and are more plentiful because they dont die as often as they do in the east to cancer and the lack of farms keeping them in service.

I saw the selection out there and the prices on craigslist. I was drooling at not only the prices but selection as well.

I wondered though how it was in Las Cruces, and Roswell NM. Along with Midland, Odessa, and San Angelo Tx.

Do you have any input on those locations providing low rust as well? I guess the rule is south of the snow line away from the coast and on the desert. High plains may even be a plus.

Re: Where to buy low rust trucks.

You can pull some good catches on the Phoenix Craigslist.

Just change up the search.

Here's what I go with

Type in just the specific year, nothing else, then scroll through.

Type in C10, C20, C30 individually, keep it simple, take your time scrolling!

Re: Where to buy low rust trucks.

When you find one you are interested in please try to see if someone on this board will look at it for you. You will get a truck enthusiast's view of that truck, and it could save you a lot of money. I was ready to go to California to get my perfect truck and someone on the board drove 30 minutes out of their way to look at it for me. They saved me a ton of money. The pictures they emailed me showed a lot of hidden damage that the 10 foot photos the owner provided hid.

Rust isnt really an issue in Texas, except for the coast. Southern Oklahoma whould be worth a look to.

Anywhere that salt isn't used on the roads in the winter is where I'd be looking.

Re: Where to buy low rust trucks.

Any place with low rain, humidty and no salt on the roads. I live in Bend, OR which is a high desert town. Low rust here and you just have to drive 3 hrs West to find the rust buckets. Great place to find travel trailers too. Low dry rot. Idaho, Nevada, Utah....there are a lot of places.

Wisconsin! I found my 70 in WI and all it has is some on the door corners and lower front fenders. Floor is solid but the cab corners and rockers had been replaced previously. So I guess thats cheating on my part

Re: Where to buy low rust trucks.

I've found them all over. The arid states is where to look, but survivors are all over. It's been my experience that the desert states have high rust (cracked seam sealer in roof lip causing header panel rot) and the temperate rainy states have all the low rust (floors, rockers, corners, supports, door bottoms).

You want to have a "nice" as possible truck that's as rust free as possible so you can use it as your daily driver? Is that the general idea?
Or are you going to restore/RODstore and drive it on Sunny Days?

Exactly. It will STILL be an old truck but one I love and take care of for years to come as trusted family member.

I do not mind doing some work to make it nicer, work on some trim, maybe some easy body work/patches and can touch up that area till a paint job can be provided. But a frame off I have no time, room, or funds for. I spin my own wrenches on the weekend if need be.

The A/C does not need to work but it should be complete so I can fix it if I wish, etc.
