while they'd fit on one of our trucks, they aren't right, and can break the studs if the truck is used as a truck.

Re: 16.5's Wasn't someone looking for these?

LHM -- I never really thought about that. Is it just b/c the hole for the hubs is too large, so all the weight is on the lugs?

Tim -- good eye, I thought that's what they must be. I have 9.75 x 16.5, and there's clearly a difference. Also never heard of a factory steel 9.50 x 16.5 wheel....

Re: 16.5's Wasn't someone looking for these?

Please explain to me why those wheels would break studs? I used those exact wheels on my longhorn and used it more like a dump truck rather than a truck and never had an issue with wheel studs.

never had any experiance with them but my thinking would be thatthe hole for the hub on the rim is bigger then your hub so it puts way too much stress on the studs alone..

Stocker nailed it;

These trucks (like just about every truck built after WWII) have whats called hub centric wheels. The center hole of the wheel is supposed to fit snug on the hub, and carry all the weight. The lug nuts, or lug studs in some european cars and trucks, are only there to fasten the wheel to the hub.
Once you remove the point that is supposed to support all the weight, and rest all that weight on a few threaded studs, then you are playing with fire.
Yes, many people have done it and gotten away with it. Some have done it to an excess as you describe in your comment. Others, replaced quite a few lugs over the years before they were educated. Once I was educated, and got the right wheels, I stopped snapping lugs on my old 70 3/4 ton longhorn I used to have.

Re: 16.5's Wasn't someone looking for these?

Then everyone running spacers is in real trouble then, because 90% of them are not hub centric. I already knew what you were going to say, but it isn't totally true. If you look at some of the stock split rims they go up to the hub, but don't actually "rest" on the hub.
