Well, it's official
Well, about an hour ago, my boss, or ex boss now, called to tell me he's laying me off. I've been on temporary layoff off and on since before Christmas. I had a feeling it was coming to this, so it wasn't a big surprise.
It's fine though. I have side jobs lined up. Working on two garage buildings. One is 24x30, like mine, and the other will be 28x36. These will tie me over for awhile. It just sucks that I will either have to go back to working for myself like I used to, or find a job somewhere else. Anyway, I felt like telling my online friends. Just remember, no job is secure. Nothing lasts forever anymore.

Sorry to hear about your news. To bad you dont live closer to my home town I would get you to build me a shop. If you build a garage as good as you can a console/speaker box. I would never go home.

That is too bad Mike, hopefully you will figure it out...but a least you know what you are up against now rather than playing the damn waiting/not knowing game.
It will all work out in the end. You could always build consoles for a living!! -Jeff |

Mike, things are getting a bit tough here too. i started out working 1st shift, 6-2:30, which was great. things slowed down, and they made me swing man 2 weeks ago, working 10-6:30. tomorrow i get to start working 2nd shift. fortunately for me, i still have a job. but if things keep slowing down like they are, i think im in trouble. hang in there man, i'm sure we'll get through this.

I am so sorry Mike, I hope something else long-term comes along soon. If nothing else you can start charging a 5.00 fee for all the free advice you give us lowly wannabe truck builders

Man Mike, that sucks!!
I know too many people that are in the same position. Many from here and many more that I talk to every day that are looking for a home business where they have more control over their future. Maybe you could e-bay some of those spiffy console boxes that you make

Damn Mike I hate to hear that. But at least you have some side jobs lined up. I know that will keep you busy for awhile. Plus hopefully someone will see your great work and hire you on.
I agree the consoles would be a great idea. I know of a few buyers on here for sure

Mike, sorry to hear that. But you have skills and you are smart man Im sure you'll have no problems getting income
I'm not worried about getting laidoff, but the sh*t might hit the fan today. Im expected to go out of town (to San Antonio) for 2 days w/ my boss, but I am refusing to go for anymore then one day. I talked to him about it once and we didn't come to a conclusion. Today we will see what happens. The tickets are bought for 2 days and I dont think he can get the money back and I dont think there is a flight we can switch it to. If anything major happens (like I quit) Ill let you guys know. Good luck Mike!

Sorry to hear about the job situation Mike. It's never easy, even if you're semi-expecting it.
I've found that these situations usually result in something even better than what you had before. So, just keep your positive attitude and I'm sure you'll be fine. God Bless, |

Care to give some details on the layoff? Work slow out there?
There was a few weeks there recently where I had to find work elsewhere to keep the cash flow flowing. construction -- sigh. we cant build em fast enough out here though, mike. ever think of moving to southern california? i know where you could get a job as a framer or finish carpenter right now. plus california has wayy more and cooler trucks than NC good luck. -mike PS- what ever happened with that tv show thing that wanted to showcase your website |
