...sort of a truck...definitely a '72
It's not mine, nor is it, as advertised, a 1972 GMC Sierra. But it is on CL and a 1972 GMC Sprint, which I guess is a truck.

Re: ...sort of a truck...definitely a '72
It's definately a truck, although a "Gentlemans' Truck". Here's the one I drove in 'Nam...it's a 68SS 396. Property of the USAF. I have a soft spot for this body style.

Re: ...sort of a truck...definitely a '72
Not this debate again...lol. It is on a car frame, shares most its body panels with it's sister car version, has a car interior, car towing capacity...its a car.
The only thing it has that is similar to a truck, is a small bed...and that is it.

Re: ...sort of a truck...definitely a '72
That is a good price on a Sprint ,very rare and it has the front grill emblem which nobody reproduces .My 72 El Camino is titled as a 1/2 ton truck ,so I say its a truck .But it can be called a Chevelle with a large trunk (mine has a Gaylord cover on it ).

Re: ...sort of a truck...definitely a '72
it's a truck, titled as a truck, and a larger payload than the s-10/ranger/import mini trucks. GM sold them through truck dealers, advertised them in truck markets, kept track of them in truck records, and had to meet truck smog/safety regs.
Not only that, this is a sweet truck in amazing shape. |

Trucks dont have car front fenders, hood, and everything else that goes with it.

Re: ...sort of a truck...definitely a '72
California DMV recognizes them as a Truck.. they have a commercial rating and need a Truck/Commercial plate.

My 2 cents
It has to be a truck.....GMC didn't make any cars They just "borrowed" some parts..to put on their "truck" T

Re: ...sort of a truck...definitely a '72
back in the day, many trucks were built off of passenger car chassis and bodys, clear back to the model T. You could get an aftermarket bed, then a dealer installed bed, and then ford decided to build it that way finally.

The GMC Sprint is way more rare than Chevy El Caminos. They were only built during the 1971-1977 model years.
Here's an amazing example of brute force....an original 1971 GMC Sprint SP454. (Not SS454) What a beauty.

Re: ...sort of a truck...definitely a '72
After that, auto mfr's realized that in order to use a truck as a truck, they needed to make changes...in came the truck frames and truck stuff to differentiate them from the cars. Elcaminos and similar hybrid car/trucks have more in common with their car counterparts than they do with trucks, far more.

Re: ...sort of a truck...definitely a '72
El Caminos and Sprints can be a car if you want or a truck if you want.Where's the debate in that?It seems a large amount of the trucks sold these days are used to haul less than many El Caminos were back when they were made. There was also a stigma that kept many folks from being seen in a truck that has passed, for the most part, with the more recent generation. The El Camino was an acceptable compromise for many.Yet,there were always those who had the "wouldn't be seen in a truck" stigma who still called it a truck.Actually, station wagons started out a truck/utility vehicle.Back in the horse drawn days buggies and carriages were the cars and wagons were the trucks. We all know the El Camino is built off the station wagon chassis and shares more body parts with them than sedans and coupes.Which brings us to the topic of Sedan Deliveries...

I have never been a huge fan of the Sprints or El Caminos but they are definatley cool and have an importnant part in truck history. I can however say without heistation that I am even less fond of the new El Caminos!!!

I'd like to see someone 'haul' a refrigerator up right in a station wagon, Or maybe I wouldn't.....
I gave the best truck award at a show yesterday to a 87 Elky, It was the best looking 'Utility' vehicle there.....
