Converting to dually?
Hey Guys, I Just picked up an 81 SWB Chev, its pretty rough but hopefully i can get it going for this summer coming.
I want to convert it to dually and run the 22.5 truck rims on it. What exactly will i need to do the conversion? I know i need the rear fender flares and will I have to use a 1 ton dually rear? or is there adapters to run my stock rear? any help/advice would be great! Thanks in advance guys Last edited by UNT8MDGT; 11-03-2010 at 07:21 PM. |

Re: Converting to dually?
Spend the money once, get a cab & chassis rearend. That's what the guys doing this conversion are using to get 'em to fit. If you use the regular dually rear, you'll have to rework the fiberglass fenders, much more expensive. I just sold a C&C with 4.56 cogs last weekend for $400.

Re: Converting to dually?
Sorry for the noob question but when you say "get a cab & chassis rearend"
does that mean from a crew cab dually? also will i have to run the 8 lug hub/spindle assembly up front? i cant find any info on the swap on the NET. Thanks again |

Re: Converting to dually?
cab and chassis rear is a bit narrower than a rear end from a typical dually. Its really not necessary unless you are planning on getting it low enough to lay frame.

Re: Converting to dually?
What do they usually come from?\
I was planning to lower it 5/6, but will i be able to use the typical drop spindles up front and shackle kit for the rear? i eventually want to run the 22.5" rig wheels on it. i know i will have to run adapters for those wheels but what should i do about the front only being 5 lug? sorry again for all the noob questions |

Re: Converting to dually?
It helps to know if your truck is 3/4 or 1/2 t and if its 2wd or 4wd
lets say its 1/2 2wd just to make it easy. you need 1t upper balljoints lower 1t a arms and 1t spindels and rotor and break and the flexable break line I did a right up on the front ends and what interchanges on dually scene and I've posted it here also but I'm not finding it

Re: Converting to dually?
The C&C is actually about 6" narrower than the regular dually.

Re: Converting to dually?
Ok perfect i did a little more searching and found out what i could get the rear from. I also just found out about a crew cab dually thats being parted out so ill probably end up just grabbing everything from it, if i cant get the parts from the scrapper.
and sorry the truck is 2wd 1/2 ton, and ill take a look over at dually scene to see what i can find Thanks guys |
