Hey everyone, brand new to the board, but have been using it for a little while on my truck. I have a '75 GMC Gentleman Jim. Who all else has one? I've never seen another one on the road, personally, but I love my truck!!

I havn't personally seen one on the road since I was a teenager, and I'm not about to devulge the information on the time period...

Don't own one either.

Will do!! I don't doubt there are guys on here who were working the GM plants when some of these trucks were brand new. But that just makes them more experienced right?

I love showing off the truck. So many people are just amazed at all the options I have with such and old truck, and NO ONE has ever heard of a "Gentleman Jim" before.

I'm familiar with the GM trucks. My Dad was a Delco Battery Engineer, and my stepfather worked at the Fisher Body Marion Indiana stamping plant. I distinctly remember a black one in the little town I grew up in. I left there in '91, and never turned back, so I don't know if it's still around or not. I had a great uncle that had the companion truck the beau james. If I remember it was blue and silver with a 454. Jim

I've seen pictures of the Beau James. I like the Gentleman's better though.

Yeah, I did the entire swap myself. It's got a Detroit 6.2 out of a 91 K3500.

Ive seen both gentlemen jims and beau james editions. There was a local beau james 454 for 1500 I kick myself for not buying as well as a gentlemen jim for 400. The jims are way cooler imo.

it's an air silencer used on the gm diesel engine

I actually had no idea what it was for. It was just that way when I took it out of the donor truck, so I decided to put it back on.

Hey guys, because diesel engines do not have any air valves like gas engines, they needed to silence the air intake. Basically, from the start of the air duct to the intake valves themselves, there is one long runner with no restrictions. This is also why diesels do not produce vacuum.

Just run your engine once without the silencer and you'll know why it's there. Hope this helps.

WOW I had no idea anyone would remember this truck. I bought one new in 1975, I have pictures at home and will post them in a couple weeks when I get back. I still have the original Gentleman Jim floor mats.

What exactly are they? Why the name? What options etc? What're they worth?

Gentleman Jim's were kind of like an experiment to see if people would like "comfort options" in pickups. They came with vinyl bucket seats, a center console, a 350, a TH350 transmission, power disc brakes, chrome bumpers, a special paint job, a tonneau cover that matched the paint, and an 8 track player with am/fm stereo. I'm sure there were lots more options that I'm forgetting. They also said "Gentleman Jim" on each side of the box behind the rear wheels.

They're worth what people will pay for them. If they know what they're getting (since there were only about 1000 of them made) you'd pay almost anything to get one because they're super, SUPER rare.
