New here from Birmingham, AL - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

hi everyone, I just bought my first old truck a couple of weeks ago and this looks like the place to be. What I have is a 1971 C-10 swb fleetside... it has the 307ci V8 with the 3 speed on the column. It needs some work here and there, but it's mostly just refreshment stuff. It runs great though, it was a Mississippi State campus truck for no telling how long and the odometer reads a little over 49,000 original miles (and it's centered, so it hasn't rolled over), although the odometer stopped around 5 or 6000 miles ago is what the guy I bought it from told me (he seemed like an honest guy and knew that I didn't care either way). Anything else you want to know about it, just ask me and I have a couple of questions myself.... first, it has the 12 bolt cover on my rear end, what was the gearing in these old trucks (typically) and is it more than likely posi ? Also, what are some of the first few things that you guys would reccomend doing to the truck before anything else ? thanks!!

WELCOME...I'm your neighbor over here in MS.
That's funny that your truck came from campus; I work here at MSU. The low mileage is probably right and most of the vehicles here are actually serviced pretty regular...good find!

Welcome to the best chevy truck site from bham too. They only talk trucks here no other crap like politics or religion like others thank God.

thanks everyone for the replies... one question, is it a common problem for a floor in the beds of these trucks to be dented toward the very rear of the truck and is there an easy fix for this ? I was thinking of maybe hiding it with the oak slats or something, but would rather have a spray in liner.
