need advice! Cab lifting

I need to pull the cab off the frame is it bad to run straps throught the cab our the doors ( wrapping a couple times) and lifing the cab with a tractor?
Will I shatter the glass? or flex the cab and screw it up?

Re: need advice! Cab lifting

Had one on a trailer that we removed last week. We had used muscles and got it onto the trailer, but getting it off the trailer found us short of some pecs and abs. So, bring in the backhoe. The doors were off of it, but the glass is still in the front and back. We used a 4x4 that was wrapped with old towels. I'd recommend placing the "stick" as close to the windshield as possible, because the windshield and the firewall are going to be the heaviest parts of the cab and the most mass. If the "stick" is in the middle of the doorway, the cab will tilt with the rear glass going up and the firewall going down and the cab may come into contact with whatever your lifting it with if your chains/straps aren't long enough.

I lifted my cab with 2 2x4s nailed together, ran threw the door windows and lifted it with a tractor. Didn't have any problems.

It will bend the driprails"guess how I know". I have a 4x6 that I put through both windows with a 2 inch hole 2 inches deep.I then put a trailer ball on top of my engine hoist to lift it off.

Re: need advice! Cab lifting

I can't remember how many cabs we have lifted with a 4 by 4 strapped to the top of an engine hoist through the side windows located near the front without a problem. I think at least 6 for sure.

Re: need advice! Cab lifting

check out thelonerife's Chuck's SWB Fleetside build thread. he built an adapter that goes on the end of his cherry picker that uses like a 4x4 through the windows. i think what i am gonna do is rig up some pulleys to the cross beams in my garage and use a come-a-long to hoist up the cab on my 72 when it gets some garage time
