1st Radio Controlled Vehicle in Over 10 Years!
Ok, so I am pretty amped up right now. I just ordered my first new RC vehicle in over 10 years! Up until I was about 20 I was huge into RC cars and trucks, but life kind of drew me away from the hobby. I had a AWD street car (HPI RS4 PRO), a 2WD stadium truck (LOSI LXT), and my all around beater (and personal favorite) a Traxxas Stampede. Over the years I have sold them all to rais e cash for various projects along the way, but I have always missed the hobby. So last weekend I made a surprise sale of some old engine parts I had laying around and had a good chunk of cash laying around that I wasn't expecting. I've got my real truck to build so a chunck of that cash went into the savings pile, but with the rest I decided to divulge myself into my old hobby. I chose my old favorite, which is surprisingly not only still around, but very popular as well: the Traxxas Stampede. I'm feeling like a kid on Christmas eve right now, and the week or so worth of waiting is gonna be the death of me. My wife thinks I am nuts, but I am happy as hell. Here's the link in case anyone is interested. Oh, and I found they had an additional body available for the model, an early 50's Chevy pickup, so of course that is coming as well.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXNJJ0**&P=ML One question: I saw on the website that they used to had a 80's C-10 body for the Stampede, but was listed as discontinued........can anyone tell me where I might be able to find one? |

Re: 1st Radio Controlled Vehicle in Over 10 Years!
Thanks man. I actually made the purchase right before I left my house for work, now that I am here our comupter services department has e-bay blocked from the work computers. I'll check those links out when I get home tonight.
I gotta be careful with this one though, when i was doing this before i got really obsessed with making these little things as fast as possible. While it was cool to see them screaming, it sure got expensive. I'm hoping to keep this one box stock as the RTR kit comes for a while, at least until my real '65 Chevy C-10 in on the road anyway. |

Re: 1st Radio Controlled Vehicle in Over 10 Years!
Did a search of the Tower Hobbies website and found a few:
'72 Chevy pickup: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...5&I=LXFJU9&P=K 80's Stepside: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDA40&P=7 '50 Panel (basically a clear grave digger): http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEPC8&P=7 Clod buster body (80's fleetside): http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDA53&P=7 '57 Chevy pickup: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDA61&P=7 454SS pickup: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDA63&P=7 There are a few others, and other brands that make the same bodies. Plenty to choose from, guess a little searching was all I needed. So friggin' stoked! |

Re: 1st Radio Controlled Vehicle in Over 10 Years!
Its an addicting hobby. I was into the r/c hobby about 7 years ago, had a few traxxas cars. Never raced or anything, just ran them on the street and in the yard. That lasted for a few years then I sold them all. About 2-3 years ago I was at a car show/swap meet looking for parts for my 52. Some guy had a traxxas t-maxx for sale and my brother and I decided to go halfs. Wasn't too long after that I decided I wanted my own and bought a new nitro rustler. Then while searching ebay I came across a ofna 8th scale buggy and bought it, then from there I just couldn't stop. Up to a few weeks ago I was up to 11 of them and 2 helicopters. I had on-road cars, monster trucks, race buggies and truggies and a few custom ones I made. The hobby took over to the point I didn't touch the 52 for over a year. Discovered awesome local hobby shop that had a outdoor dirt track. Over that time I had became a premium eBay/PayPal member (or something like that) with all the purchases I made on eBay.
Within the last month though I've been selling and trading a few, getting the number down to 3. Just keeping the ones I used the most. But before I did that I had to buy one of the 5th scale buggies from HPI racing which should be here sometime mid next week. Bought it from a guy on a R/C forum for $600. Got back to work on the 52 as well, but thats in slow progress mode until spring comes. I'll post a few pictures when I get home.

Re: 1st Radio Controlled Vehicle in Over 10 Years!
The Stampede just showed up today as I was getting ready to leave for work. Oh the torture! I barely had enough time to grad the owner's manual before heading out. The night is dragging by 'cuz I'm anxiously waiting for the time to leave. I bought a Ready-to-Run kit (RTR) just to get myself back into the hobby again, what I didn't realize is the RTR kits already came assembled. Good because I get to go home, charge the batteries, and drive. Bad because I always loved building the kits myself, oh well I guess I'll just have to cope . I'm gonna try and resist the temptation to modify this kit until my real '65 C-10 is done, but it's gonna be hard. God help me if they come out with a '60-'66 fleetside body for it
Drummin89: Very cool man, I'm going to try really hard to not let this one get carried away just yet. I know how I am though, so I have to be careful. Fortunately the nearest hobby store is about an hour and a half away in Reno. Gotta get my real truck on the road first. Edit: oh yes, I will post some pics when I get it all out once I am home. Re: 1st Radio Controlled Vehicle in Over 10 Years!
Yes it is a good collection. Before I bought the Stampede I was looking a lot at the helicopters and airplanes. It is something I would love to get into, but for now I'm gonna stick with the ground. I've got a couple of those cheap "Air Hogs" indoor rc helicopters that are a good fix for flight right now (plus they're great fun for chasing my wife's cats around). Again, after the '65 is rolling I'm gonna jump back into the RC world again.

Re: 1st Radio Controlled Vehicle in Over 10 Years!
Nice trucks. I have about 7 or 8 cars and trucks laying around also. I started out with touring cars but switched to an HPI RS4 MT because it could handle different terrain. My last purchase was as Axail Scorpion RTR that has been upgraded with orange aluminum parts.

Re: 1st Radio Controlled Vehicle in Over 10 Years!
I have an older HPI Nitro Super RS4, it is the long wheel base model, that has a 2 speed trans, an .15 swap and tuned muffler. Ill have to get some pics of it for you guys, I used to be pretty big into the hobby when I was younger as well. I had a Traxxas Rustler (buggy), an Associated 2wd Truck (Electric, 2 speed, etc.) and a Kyosho USA 1 monster truck. My brother had several as well, including a nitro T-Maxx (full aluminum) and a supercharged, big-block X-Factor.

I am a Tamiya guy myself, but have had others. I love hunting for vintage hop ups for them. Here are some current, and past rides.
