my dad wants to get a tach dash that is coming up on ebay tomorrow. its goign in the 71 cheyenne. what do we need to know about installing somthing like this? do we have to go to the distributer or is all the wirering there? thanks

The easiest and best thing would be to buy a tach harness for it. They are lesss than $20 and will make installation quick and easy.

would this tach harness come with the tach or could come with the tach? or is it somthing that goes on the truck

It is a seperate harness all together, it might come with the tach it might not, it plugs into the back of the tach so check with the seller you might have to buy one.

The back of the tach looks like this. The harness I'm talking about is a stand alone piece that hooks up to posts on the tach and then completes the connection on the engine.

If you want it to be 100% correct, tehn get the harness. If you just want it to work, then run a wire from the left terminal (as viewed on the above pic) to a terminal on the fuse box that is hot with the ign switch on (IGN UNFUSED) and then a wire from the terminal on the right out to the neg post on the coil if you have points, ot the TACH terminal on the dist cap if you have HEI.
Very simple to wire up.
