e-brake help

I have an 04 extended cab.The e-brake will not hold the truck while in gear,and in tx. it is a requirement for inspection.Took everything apart,cable is goog,e-brakeshoes look good.There is a star wheel adj.but doesn't seem to help.Any suggestions.

Check the adjustment nut where the single cable attaches to 2 cables that go to each wheel. If you tighten that down then you might get it to take out the slack and make it work right. Not sure if there is any adjustment at the pedal, but maybe take a look there too.

Did you turn the star wheel till it was real tight to put the rotor/drum back on?My 2001 with rear disc brakes were like that when I bought it last year.I had to adjust them REAL TIGHT to get the e brake to hold.

I was under mine the other day and I looked and this is the only way to adjust them other than the cable adjustment I mentioned above, so if the cable is snugged up and they still slip this is the only way to tighten it up. Mine hold alright, but I think I may have to pull the wheels off and try your suggestion.
