Truck shells

So i know that alot of the member despise the shell/toppers on are trucks but i grew up around it so yea. ANyways do shells for years like 88 to the 90's work on square bodies? or does anyone know who still makes shells for are trucks?
Thanks,
Cole

Re: Truck shells

I think the one on my CC is for a newer truck. It works, but the rear corners are about an inch too wide. either our beds get more narrow toward the rear or the shell is wedge shaped.

Re: Truck shells

it won't or don't fit the older 73-87 trucks are wider. My dad was going to get one for his 84 and tried to throw it on my 88 to haul it home, it hang like 4 inches over on one side of my truck, and when we measured his bed was wider then mine on my 88. I forget the exact measures but his is wider then my 88 for sure, length is the same.

If you want a width measure on an 88 and up style fleetside let me know I can run out and get one tomorrow probably.

Re: Truck shells

I've been wanting to take mine off so I can haul some gravel, and I really don't care for it anyway. I just bought this truck a couple weeks ago. Not sure if you can tell by the few lame pics I do have of mine....

Re: Truck shells

Snugtop still make a nice topper for the 73-87s;up until the 80s many toppers interchanged but the newer boxes are tapered.

There were also some GM toppers sold through the dealers....you still see the odd one on an older truck

Re: Truck shells

I'm not really a fan of caps, but my truck came with one and I don't want to take it off until I can put some bedliner in to keep it from rusting. I think this canopy goes with the lines of my truck rather well, and I like how it matches the color scheme. I don't know what brand it is, but they key says "Atwood", so I'm guessing them?

The last two trucks I had came with fiberglass caps and the first thing I did was chop them up and throw them away, they were much, much uglier looking.

I must say, it's damn nice having a dry and locked truck bed.

You can set my truck on fire and roll it down a hill,
and I still wouldn't trade it for a Coupe de Ville.

Re: Truck shells

I like it when you see a newer truck with an old cap on it remember the ones that had the "bubble" windows? I kid you not there's a 90's truck a guy parks at work with one on it. Looks totally wrong.

Yeah, that's what my C20 came with! I didn't have anybody around to help me take it off and it was so ugly I just started cutting.

That's what I'm tempted to do with the one on the Barney truck (pics above) so I can get the gravel I need. I'd like to not have to step around in my driveway on icy #2's again this year. Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone ever tried to walk in #2 gravel after some freezing rain? Not fun.
