Question Transmission Swaps

I got a good deal on a TH350. My truck had a TH350 short shaft. I put the 400 in and I'm about 1/2" - 3/4" too short to make it work. I loosened my motor mounts and we got the drive shaft in. However, it was way too tight and would have broken had we attached the center bearing support. Does anyone have any ideas why or what I can do? The TH400 has a much larger diameter yoke than the TH350 had. I purchased a combination u joint, 1330 and 1350 to make it work. So close yet so far.

I appreciate help from anyone who's done this swap before.

Which style TH400 are you running, bolt on yoke or slide in yoke? Either way, just have your driveshaft shortened, if it's too long. Costs next to nothing to have done.

Thanks for the information. A friend told me the same thing after your message to me. I am getting it done now for a price of $68.50. That was the cheapest and simplest resolution. At the shop he apparently has done many shafts for the same reason. He was extremely familiar with it and said he'd have it tomorrow.

The company shortening the driveshaft said that I would ruin the center bearing since the transmission yoke bolts on and not slips on. He said with the motion of the differential traveling up and down it would pull the bearing out of the rubber. Was yours a bolt in?
