project "fast and ez 72" has begun
ok so since i got this truck back in may for the 2nd time of owning it, its time for the build thread to begin! so nick go get your rabies shot so you can stop foaming at the mouth for this. anyway you all might be wondering "why name it 'fast and ez 72'?" well here's why. as some know i have been planning a tpi conversion using an 88 z28 tpi 350. but i finally managed to get to get a retro fit harness for it. it gets its name from FAST's ez efi multiport retrofit kit 302000. anyway it is in need of a front clip, cab work, and bed work/new bed. so what i have done so far is tacked the driver's side rocker back in place so i can get the 2x4 that i had jammed between the cab and bed out of there so i can use the driver's door. so for the plans:
-driver's floor pan -cab mounts/supports(mine are fairly rotted) -new/better front sheet metal and grill -bed repairs/bed replacement -factory a/c delete, the a/c pump has been pulled off before i bought it the first time -tpi conversion using ez efi kit 302000 -converting to power brakes(already robbed a booster/mc from a square body). i'll make it work some how dang it! -cleaning and painting the frame with por-15(if i get the moneys/time for the por-15) -convert the markers and tail lights to l.e.d. -sound deaden the cab and put in new interior now how bout some photos for you photo fanatics??

I didn't realize your cab supports were that bad. Now I'm glad I wasn't the one driving it back to your place.

Yeah its trippy feeling the floor flex under your feet going down the road. And if you think the supports are bad, and keep in mind thats only the front left support, you should see the driver's floor pan. There'll be a photo of that in the next couple days. Anyone know of how to cut sheet metal with out a plasma cutter or cut-off wheel?

sawzall or a jig saw or a body saw. You're gonna need some sort of a saw.

Ok so an update. Today i chased the bad hot wire for my dizzy and decided just to run a new wire with a kill switch so now i don't have to keep using my cheater wire that i had going from my dizzy to the back of the alternator. I also swapped out the alternator for a higher amp alternator in preparation for my tpi conversion. But the new one i installed was larger so i had to remove the valve covers and swap them out with some shorter ones i had lying around. And i also decided to tackle the passenger window regulator. That was a pain to pull out because it was stuck in the up position, but i managed to get it to break free by lubing the hell out of it with some wd40. And i also got a photo of the driver's floor pan. I'll post that when i can figure out how to do it from my phone

so i guess its time for another update. so after i got back from jacksonville i pulled the old motor out of the 72 to make way for the tpi 350 that's going in it's place. so today i managed to tear it down to the short block and everything looks real nice, but at some point someone pulled this motor to reseal it and used rtv everywhere. they used it on the intake gaskets, used it for the water neck gasket, timing cover gasket, and looks like they glued together 3 pan gaskets then made another bead on both sides. but the cylinders are real nice, look factory. they don't really have a ridge and still have some remnants of the factory cross-hatching from the honing at the factory. but i think it's been over heated at some point because when i pulled the heads off the gaskets completely peeled apart, leaving the gasket on the block and heads and the steel shim came out of both.
