I hate to be so vaigue but I'd guess money, time, and research.. Probably helps to talk to a shop that does a lot of builds for those classes.

X 100!! Not to sound smart, but there is a lot more to it than you might think. I can promise you that the tricks that I've seen employed on my buddy's car aren't even scratching the surface. My buddy used to have Greg Stanfield build his engines for him until Greg got too busy running P/S. The knowledge that man possesses about this kind of thing is simply amazing. And I can gaurantee you that I only heard the tidbits of info that weren't cutting edge.

What's it Stan Mizel used to say,, all it takes to win in any stock classes is to find the latest and most innovative way to cheat,,, BEFORE they come up with a rule to prohibit it. Have you ever seen the rule books for stock classes. You have to tell these guys everything they CAN'T do, or they'll try it!
Without calling it cheating, some of the most AMAZING machines I've ever seen are the 'stock' classes. Drop the clutch at 8500, wheels 12' in the air, shift at 9,000 or 12,000 rpm, and run mid 9's with a 'stock' 350. Yeah right,,, 'stock' Sdome of these guys have more money in their 'stock' heads than I do in these AllPro RR245's

I agree, you can go as fast as you want, it just depends on your wallet, and these guys put some serious money into these cars.

The same occurs in any stock of spec or stock racing. Some of the guys running Spec Miata have insane amounts of cash into "limited preperation" vehicles.

It's not that i really want to go stock or superstock racing; i'm just reaching----trying to go as fast as possible while spending as little as possible. Yes, i know speed costs money............
Trying to look at every possible option. Do you think it would be cheaper to build a non-stock spec engine/ or buy crate engine vs. trying to coax max speed/power out of a stock drivetrain? Let's assume 13 sec. range. b) 12 second range c) 11 second range d) 10 second range i'm just amazed that a 305 powered, stock weight malibus can and do run 11-10 seconds! This is how I got a stock bolt on LT1 car in the 11.8s and it would hold true for every kind of racing.
-Get the car as light as possible. If min weight is 3400 then you need to be at 3410 or less. And in doing this you want to make sure the weight is where you need it, ie not alot on the front end. -Suspension and tires, you have to make use of all the 'stock' power you can, dont leave any of it out there. -Power: make the most power you can within the rules. -hang out with the racers...you can pick up a ton of ideas and dont be scared to try stuff that others say cant or should not be done. We had 4.33s/spool under the car and launched it at 6k plus, they said not to do launch it that high and said the car would not pull past 6k...it did till about 6500 and then it fell off. A stock motor is going for over $10k when done right.....so stock is a relative term....
