shoulder bolts for seat belts?

I put a set of mid 80s C/10 3 point seat belts in my C/10 this week but I need some shoulder bolts for where the top of the belt bolts to the pillar in the cab. Anyone know where I can get some? The bolts that came with the belts were a course thread pitch, but the ones I need are a fine thread pitch. I actually had some old flywheel bolts that were the right length and thread pitch but the belt can't swivel since the bolts don't have a smooth shoulder area.

Re: shoulder bolts for seat belts?

Somewhere right about that vintage they might have started using metric hardware. I know by the mid '90's these bolts are M17's. Just make sure you know what is going to fit into your cab.

1) Wrecking yard to get exactly what you want

2) Approx what you want by using a standard socket head shoulder bolt and put a heavy flat washer under the head. McMaster Carr and others have stuff like that.

3) Industrial bolt supply houses maybe - but they don't tend to stock automotive specialty stuff.

4) Internet - there are seatbelt sites but when I checked their mounting hardware was not shoulder bolts - just standard full thread.

Re: shoulder bolts for seat belts?

I have the same problem with my 67. It has fine thread bolts while the rest I found, 70 up trucks, were course thread.

Does anyone make a plug to go in the hole where shoulder bolt should be ? When you are done I would like to know how your belts feel and look .

Re: shoulder bolts for seat belts?

Thanks for the information everyone. I will have to check out the help section of my parts store tomorrow. Flashed, the seatbelts work great. I had to drill some new holes in my floor because the stock ones wouldn't work. I also had some 1/4" thick, 1 1/2" wide by 4" long steel plates made to go under the floor for extra strength.

Re: shoulder bolts for seat belts?

I was going to say look in 69/73 GM cars in the wrecking yards but that might not be near as easy as it sounds anymore. I think it was about 74/75 when they started having some metric bolts on them.

Re: shoulder bolts for seat belts?

I used flywheel bolts from a std trans. flywheel that i had laying around years ago. Did the same style setup several times.

Yeah, that's what I'm using right now, but they won't allow the belts to swivel.
