help! cuts in and out

i got a hei dist. il be driving along and motor cuts out for a second and comes back alive just started doing this also at idle it has cut off and i can start it back no prob it runs great other wise and does not do it all the time i let idle for 15 min and only did it once and i drove it to work today about 15 miles and only cut out once for just a second but i dont want to be stranded if it gets worse i checked my ign.switch and all wires they look good im thinking its in the dist. maybe ign.module what do yall think ive not pulled it and dont know what shape the rotor and button looks like.any ideas

check the wires on the pickup coil this is a common problem give them a slight tug and look to see if the insulation is missing. also make sure your power wire to the dist has a good connection.

Pickup coil is one thing to check especially if the hei has some miles on it. Also check your wire connections at both ends of the wire going to the distributor. As I mentioned in another thread tonight I have had a bit of trouble with the wire connectors getting loose on the spades on both ends in my truck. I've even had them come loose and kill the engine.

ive heard a shot power valve could do this

I got it when I got home the wire to the dist. Had a weak spot in it so I ran a new one and did away with the old one glad that I went back and checked it looked good but was weak in the middle thanks for the help
