Smile front tilt hood

The hood is sure a hastle to align. I am thinking a forward tilt hood
would be easier to deal with.

Has anyone fabricated the mechanism to tilt the hood forward on a 47-53 GMC truck?

If so I sure would like to see how you did it. I have the mechanism from a Buick which tilted forward, but would like to see how someone else has done it before I start.

Re: front tilt hood

Someone was making a kit for a while. I called No Limit a few years ago when they did one on customer truck and he said that was the only one they would do as it was a real bugger.
Over the past 37 years I have found that the condition of the cab mounts have a lot to do with getting the hood aligned. One other thing that will eventually screw up hood alignment is cutting out the crossmember under the bellhousing when you install a V8 and automatic. Sooner or later the weight of the cab will twist the frame when that crossmember is removed and let the front of the cab settle until it lays on the top of the frame rails. That causes the truck look bent in the middle at the cowl when you look at it from the side and the hood will never line up right.

Re: front tilt hood

No Limit does sell a kit for the AD series. I have one but decided not to use it as the accessibility to the front of the engine bay was reduced.

Re: front tilt hood

Just checked their site and the kit I have is no longer shown. Guess there just was too little interest in it.
The kit I have is pretty slick though with a sturdy compound hinge and billet side latches. It is supposed to retain the stock hood latch.

Re: front tilt hood

We made the kits for about 15 yrs, and we stopped this fall with the end of the last batch. Just not enough interest. The kits work very well if you find one.

Re: front tilt hood

Just curious... if we can't buy the kit anymore... is it possible to buy the drawings? For those of us that like to fab from stock, it'd be a great way to go!

Cheers,
Ted.
