Ther msd 5 would work OK for a bone stock motor . For a motor with some oats I'd go with the MSD6 . The 6A is nice for hi revving motors that NEED a rev limiter but since hydraulic cams sort of act as their own rev limiter I'd say its not really necessary to have one on a hydraulic cam motor. For a solid lifter motor you dont want revving over 7G they are nice to have. Ive used all of the above and think the MSD 6 is the best bang for the buck in a street motor.
Nothing like forgetting to hook up the coil wire and then noticing the spark is jumping 3 inches to the firewall! MSD's are the SH!T! Oh yeah... One of the good things about MSD boxes is that since you only use the distributors points as a trigger you dont really run anywhere near the current through them that you did originally . Recurve the stock distributor for a better advance curve and install some stiff point springs like Accel or mallory sell and you can rev as hi as you like up to 7 grand using the points type distributor without ever wearing the points or the condenser out.
