Door ventilation openings?

Hi there,

can somebody please explain to me what the function is of these vent openings in the doors:

They are in the front and rear doors and do not seem to be connected to the heating system. Or are they?

When I look into them, it seems like there is something behind it?

can somebody help me with this?

I am making new door panels for my compo speaker set and I want to know what to do with this.

Re: Door ventilation openings?

Pressure relief while shutting the doors.

It works like a one way check valve.

There is a rubber flapper on the inside.

oke! thanks man! I wonder if this still works in my 25 year old Burb, which drove around in CA for 24 year. The rubber is probably hard as a rock!

But I'll check...thanks!

I was hoping for something like support-vent holes for the heating, because now the heating is only brought into the car by the vent holes in the dash and the vent openings under the dash near the floor in the middle.

Re: Door ventilation openings?

For some reason my '73 has plastic covers screwed over those vents. They almost look factory. I have no idea why...
