Re: Header fitment question
Thanks for the reply.
Summit also says 67, but not 66. I don't think most would since the 66 only had 327's as the small block (I think)

Re: Header fitment question
i would be concerned with where the collectors dump - they may just dump right into the tranny xmember - I just installed the hedman 69260 - notice how those collectors dump at a downward angle, but these 69830 appear to dump horizontal to the ground - I had a pair of Hooker Super Comps from a late 60s/early 70s blazer and the Passenger side looked pretty similar to these - could be wrong, theyre sweet lookin headers!

Re: Header fitment question
I pretty much have an 'open frame'. I will be going with a 200-4r. I also have the CPP trans mount. So the only thing that it would run into would be the CPP mount...don't think that would happen (or at least I hope).
Quote:
Since this pic last week, I also removed the trailing arm crossmember and also going with the CPP (should be here tomorrow). This might help to since I can run the exhaust through the member.

Re: Header fitment question
Taz,
Sorry didnt realize your frame mods - the stock auto trans xmember seemed to be my only problem - you are probably good to go! I dont see anything that would impede just look at the part number in summit - youll see how they differ fro yours - Id use your part number based on your crossmember setup - theyre a nicer looking header for sure! |

Re: Header fitment question
I've got the same mounts and had a hell of a time finding the correct headers. I contacted CPPJeff here onthe board and this is what he recommends. I have yet to order the shortys, due to funds. Hope this helps.

Re: Header fitment question
I have a set of the hedman 69230's ( the same as the 69830's just not ceramic coated) that I intend to see how well they will fit the '63-'66 trucks. But I'm a long ways from that now. I think they will fit really well with the engine in the stock location and with an auto trans. I don't think you will have any issues with your engine a little farther forward. But there is a possibility. The frames are pretty much the same from 1963 thru 1972. The 327's are the same physical size as any Gen I small block.

Re: Header fitment question
Thanks for the replies.
Captainfab - yea, I also really don't see any issue with just moving the motor up a couple inches...or unless the frame edges come into play. Almost willing to try. I took a risk on my BBC in a 63 and that one worked out with the motor moved up. I didn't even have remove the saginaw crossmember. I like the looks a little better of the 69830 versus the 69096. I did see a member doing a build with the 69096 'hedders' with the CPP mounts and looks like they worked for him.

Re: Header fitment question
i use these Hedman 69640 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HE...n/?prefilter=1 for jeep engine swap but work on our trucks with plenty of clearance and short pipe hookup

Re: Header fitment question
I said I would check back in and let you know the outcome of the fitment for the Hedman 69830 headers. I tried them last week, and they don't fit. The come very close, but the only reason they do not fit, is I am using the CCP perches/mounts and it moves the engine up about 2". The headers are about 1" off. So if you had a stock setup/location, I see no reason why the would not fit.
So I have a set of brand new headers for sale So I may look into getting the hedman 69096 I got my motor finally last week, and installed it the next day! They dyno'd it for me. Came in at 458 hp Movin right along!!!

Re: Header fitment question
Taz,
Where do the headers NOT fit? is it because of the CPP mounts flip up portion on the rear of the mount? I had the same issue with them on my LSx build, along with I could have the motor that far forward. I used POL tubular mounts which allowed me to use the rear perch mounts or the front perch mounts, which might help you....

Re: Header fitment question
Since the motor is moved up, of course this moves the headers up. So know where they bend to go backwards, they just hit the crossmember. They come VERY close to the CPP perches, but this would be easy to take care of.
Thanks for the info, but I already have my engine all mounted and bolted in. I'll just get the hedman 69096 like Chillware uses. CPP also recommended these.

Re: Header fitment question
with the motor moved up...for me it didnt work well because I was going to run an electric fan with a larger motor on it so I needed all the room between the rad and the motor that I could get. goo luck! nice build for sure!

Re: Header fitment question
Yea, I also ran into that problem to. I'm about 1/2" to far up so the water pump hits the fan. So I'm going with a short water pump. At least I waited to buky the pulleys and everything...I knew it was going to be close!
Thanks for the compliment on the build!

Re: Header fitment question
Chillware,
I do have a question. On the pic that you have on your build thread (here), it looks like the headers are pretty close to the ground. How much are you lowering your truck? I'm lowering mine 5" up front and I plan on 7 in back. You think I'll have a clearance problem? I might consider those POL brackets and just use the headers I have. Thanks!

Re: Header fitment question
I found the POL perches I told you about raised the motor up about 1" or so, with my LS it made it so I can drop the front 4" or maybe 5".

I already have the cross member from POL with exhaust cut outs for running the pipes up in the frame which was my original plan. I had the POL engine mounts installed on my frame, and I didn't like them one bit.. they looked way to hokey.. The flat mount on the bottom doesn't sit flush on the cross member and looks plain dumb, AND I had to notch my frame to get them to fit.. if I had gone w/ the CPP mounts in the first place I wouldn't have ugly notches on the top of my frame rails now, ugh!! :S
