Disk Break conversion for 1970 Chevy C10?

I have a 1970 Chevy SWB, 2wd, 6 lug, I have drum breaks, I want to convert over to Disk Breaks on the front.

What older car or truck will convert over to my truck? or should I just go with an after market kit?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Check with the site sponsors I think a few of them sell kts. CPP, ECE, Performance online and several others have kits.

Why use old wrecking yard stuff when you can just have it all nice shiny and new.

$$ would be the reason to use junkyard parts. I can find something in decent shape around here, and clean it up paint it and be happy with it and the saved cash.

True I guess I just like seeing the new box show up and having that Christmas feeling.

Thanks,
What are yor plans?
Throw the minumum stuff on to get disc brakes and go?
Are you rebuilding the suspension at the same time?
Drop Spindles, springs, shocks?

If you use used parts,... how much do you actually want to re-use?
Rotors, calipers, and pads, ususally need to be replaced.
Bearings? I always use new bearings and seals.

Master cylinders are cheap.
You will have to switch to a disc proportioning valve. That could be a used item.
No drop spindles,... the that's another used item along with the dust shields.

73-87 trucks have all the parts you need.
Just depends on how much you want to reuse.
Rubber brake hoses? Get new ones.

Just my opinion, but idler arms, tie rods and balljoints all need to be looked at at the same time.

Re: Disk Break conversion for 1970 Chevy C10?

I would go the salvage yard route because my time is a lot cheaper than my money, and besides, I like getting my hands on the parts. Disassemble EVERYTHING, clean, and inspect it before installing on your truck. Internal parts are available for the MC and calipers. The one part I would always buy new is hoses because you have no way of determining what their condition is like inside.

I would look for a 71 or 72 first, than 73-87 if you can't find that. Should all be basically bolt on stuff.

Re: Disk Break conversion for 1970 Chevy C10?

I found this, what would something like this be worth?

-67-72 5 lug disc brake setup, includes front a-arms, spindles, rotors, calipers, steering linkage, rear axles, drums and brake backing plates, convert your 6 lug to a 5 lug disc brakes.
-67-72 Power brake booster and linkage

What am I missing?

Please let me know.

Thanks,
