Re: 1964 steering column swap

yes it is. Are you just going for a tilt addition or are you going from 3spd to auto?

Re: 1964 steering column swap

i am going to auto and tilt column. I will post pics laters but I am new to this. I am been working on my truck for 6mos. I removed the cab myself, swapped the front end to disc brakes. i completed all of the welding, body and most bondo work. I am having a hard time with bondo on the corners and cruves fenders.

Re: 1964 steering column swap

Looks to me like you're doing good with the bondo work. If I may ask, where did you buy the patch panel above the windshield? I know there are a couple members here that need that piece. The only ones I've seen are listed for the '60-'63's.

Re: 1964 steering column swap

the top piece from the top roof is from MCL 60-63, i motifty the piece to fit. Bending the ends to make it longer and , welding and bondo. I need to know if steering column (auto) from the suburban fit. I need to order your power steering plates.

Re: 1964 steering column swap

The '87 Suburban column will work with a little bit of work. It has been done by many so it is doable. You'll need to get the wiring diagram for the column, and your truck, so you know which wires to hook up and where on your truck.

Thanks for the info on that upper patch panel. I wasn't sure how they would fit up on a '64-'66 cab.

Re: 1964 steering column swap

on the body work...take your time get it close and then spray a high build epoxy...then get some guide coat and see what happens when you hit it with a block, get yourself good blocks and quality paper , hit it with as long as a block as will fit in that area, on the doors I use I believe an 18 inch, spray the guide coat and see where the paint still remains after sanding, thats a low spot..so fill it and block again, if you hit shiny metal...thats a high ..take a picking hammer(one with a semi pointed head) and lightly tap it down...again re block and see what happens...all it takes is time

Re: 1964 steering column swap

Some guys use a crossmember from a later model C10. I modified one from a late 70"s camaro.

There is also a cool idea here:
