Rarest of the Rare?

This has to be one of the lowest production number options for the square body that there is . I am sure that there are rarer items but this is pretty rare . I wanted to post pics so while you guys are out looking through the yards , you will know that this is actually factory if you see one. Jeff (BIGBLOCK73) knows the option number for this I think . This is a combo dome and cargo lamp assembly. It tilts down to illuminate the bed or cargo area using the interior dome lamp. It shines through the rear window. It has two large tubular bulbs in it .One operates in normal mode while it is up in the normal position. There is a second bulb that comes on when it is flipped down to illuminate the bed. You can see the contacts that are broken by a tab that is part of the tilt down portion. It is shown in the last picture of the first post. You can also see the contacts in the pictures taken from the rear of the light assembly .When it is put in the normal position it breaks contact on the second light wiring. This thing is bright with just one bulb. When both are on it will draw in bugs from the next county. I did not know these existed until I read a thread about them on this board a few years ago .Enjoy.
Frank

Re: Rarest of the Rare?

I gotta say, I may never have a need for one of those but it would be the coolest thing to show off hahaha. Maybe someday I can get ahold of one.

I am always looking. If I find one ,other than this one , I will let you know . This one is actually nicer than it looks in the pics . I should have cleaned it before the pics but I decided I needed to take the pics and post it while I had it on my mind .

I didnt realize these were factory options. My 80 has one and that is about the only option it has except for 4wd! (custom deluxe)

Re: Rarest of the Rare?

per GM...LAMP ASM., dome & cargo comb. GM part number 356267

I show it only being offered from 1976-1978 and only on regular cab trucks (obviously)

Very cool part, never knew it existed until now.

Re: Rarest of the Rare?

That is AMAZING!!! I have never seen one of those before. I have GOT to put one in my '83. What other rare options/accessories are there for squares? I am all kinds of excited now.

Re: Rarest of the Rare?

Cool! I've never seen (or even heard of) those either.

My 77 plow truck must be on the other end of the spectrum ... no dome light at all

Thanks.

Re: Rarest of the Rare?

It's worth what someone is willing to pay. It is rare, a purist might pay $50-$300 for it. It's basically a crap shoot.

I wonder how much less that cost than the outside cargolight with the switch in the pillar.

Re: Rarest of the Rare?

Scott,
They are rare but not always desireable . I personally like it but it is funny looking installed. I think there was an auction on Ebay for one a while back and Jeff (Bigblock73)can probably remember what it went for . If you have one , I know he is looking so PM him if you would . I would like to see a board member end up with it if you have one. If not him , I am interested so put me in line for it . .
