Need help/pics...3 point seat belt conversion

I need to upgrade my seat belts for my 4 y/o co-pilot so I can actually drive my truck on the weekends. I know there are a lot of seat belt threads, but I'm wanting to specifically focus on conversions with the tank in the cab. I would greatly appreciate some details on what company you used, some pictures of the driver side retractor mount and any suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Need help/pics...3 point seat belt conversion

When my first child was born I bought a set from Brothers (12 years ago) they are still in the truck. I bought the 3 points for the driver and passenger and just a lap belt for the middle. I was able to hook his car seat in the middle and now he rides on the passenger side, getting ready to take the driver seat in 4 years. It was a tight fit with the tank, but I got it to work with no big problems.

Re: Need help/pics...3 point seat belt conversion

I notice I had the anchor bolt in the pillar but 2 point belts as 3 point were an option. With that I ordered a set of 3 point belts from The Parts Bin ($89 for the pair) and with some hardware and a few hours I had 3 point belts installed for about $100.

I installed them using the original floor anchor spots and bolts for the buckles and the retractor, bolts supplied with the new belts fit the pillar anchors. For the third anchor point of the belt end I used some 1-1/2 angle steel to make a bracket and bolted it to teh floor beside the seat in front of the retractor with a big reinforcing plate behind it. Just don't use a bolt and washer as as it can rip through the floor in a wreck so you need a plate to spread the load, I didn't have to weld it in or anything and they work fine.

Go to your local salvage yard and pick up a set. Got mine for $25.00

I bought the ones on my 67 gmc from LMC. A little tighter on the drivers side.

Putter:

Is that seat setup out of a suburban/tahoe second row? I like the looks with the seatbelt setup.

Re: Need help/pics...3 point seat belt conversion

Most of the classic truck venders can sell you a 3pt belt system, don't know if they have a center lap belt tho. I got my 3pt belts thru Wes at Classic heartbeat. less than 100 but don't recall the actual price.

The only gripe i have about them is i wish the inside belt had a plastic support holding the belt like on the newer vehicles so it would make the snapping of the belt a 1 handed operation. I don't think or have not found a mfgr that makes a belt with the plastic holder.

Many scrap yards won't sell belts for liability reasons, would you know if that belt was compromised during an accident?

Seat is 2nd row from '99 suburban.
Belts are from a low-option work truck without the nice plastic covers on the rear wall. Painted metal interior kinda' truck. I think it was '99 or 2K.

Now i'm curious, how were the 2nd row seats mounted? with the stock truck mounting hardware?

If I remember correctly, I drilled new holes in the SEAT brackets for the front, and new holes in the CAB for the rear brackets. Also, you need about a 3/4" or 1" spacer in the rear to keep the headrests from rubbing the wall.

Also, since they are 60/40 seats, you will have to attach in the middle, too.

And before all the safety comments arrive, you will need to add some extra 'umph' under the floor for the rears.

Here is a link to my seat thread that might help a little. In my old cab, but I attached the same way in my current cab, too.
