Throttle Cable Question

Might be a stupid question, but what does the throttle cable do? I have a 61 and it has not only a choke cable but a throttle also. Has a T on the knob. it's connected to my linkage so I pulled it but it didn't do anything. I searched on here but couldn't find the answer. Let me just say that I'm new to working on my own truck, but I'm learning.

Re: Throttle Cable Question

is your truck a 4x4 with a winch or was it ever a tow truck ?? I have only seen hand throttles on trucks using the PTO "power take off"

Re: Throttle Cable Question

It will idle your truck up to any specific rpm, for running a pto, jump starting or poor mans cruise control. (Last one not recomended for obvious reasons)

Re: Throttle Cable Question

Bugeye it's not a 4x4 or tow truck. It's just 1/2 ton swb. Ok, Thanks Guys, I think I get it now.

Re: Throttle Cable Question

Some of the older trucks just had a hand operated throttle. Not sure just why other than the above stated uses. It may have been an option on the '60-'62's?
