72 Camper Special "Time Capsule"
I have a 72 GMC Camper Special that we believe has only 36K miles on it. I bought it from the guy who bought it from the "Widow". She said the only thing her husband did to it since he bought it new was put a cam and headers on it. I am using it for parts in my "Operation Flashback" build but I think I should document everything I can on it for future reference before I take it apart. For now I'll post the SPID and a couple of interesting pics. Everything works on this truck.....even the cig lighter (looks like it's never been used!). I also have the original tires and wheels listed on the SPID.
Too bad it's so rusty or I would restore it. If anyone wants pics of specific parts or areas let me know and I'll try to get them for you. Check out the compass! Was this an option?

Re: 72 Camper Special "Time Capsule"
That's a nice truck. The "Custom Campers" (not specials) tended to be great survivors. Many were only used as an RV for camping use.Mine was out of PA and clean as any truck from the southwest.

All the Rotunda stuff I've seen has always been associated with Ford. But it also usually said Ford Rotunda.

Here's more pics.
Check the lack of wear on the pedals and the cruise control box Metal engine tag on the valve cover (May 1972) Door panels show some wear Love the stowage box, wonder if I can put it in a short fleet bed?

Re: 72 Camper Special "Time Capsule"
I believe that the "newer" looking wiring under the dash is from an aftermarket cruise control setup that was put on the truck. Fuse box etc. is stock.

Re: 72 Camper Special "Time Capsule"
Sweet. Any help with pics of the camper wiring would be helpful.
I have a relay of some type on the firewall and don't know if it is stock or part of the trailer brakes installed after market. Looking througghwiring diagrams, I haven't been able to locate wiring to the aux. battery. Nice Truck. Any insight to the camper special would be helpful. Thanks

Re: 72 Camper Special "Time Capsule"
I very seriously doubt it has 36K original miles with a reupholstered seat. Also, the wheels would definately disqualify it as a time capsule. I agree it is a well optioned truck.

Re: 72 Camper Special "Time Capsule"
factorystock- The seat is a bit odd...looks like it was recovered a long time ago. I have the original wheels listed on the spid..with what appears to be the original rubber. Will post pics soon.

Re: 72 Camper Special "Time Capsule"
Earlier comment about Rotunda....it's definately FoMoCo.
As for wiring....check out www.wiringharness.com. That's the website for M&H Fabricators. They manufacture duplicates of the OEM harnesses. Wes, at Classic Heartbeat (site vendor) can get them for you, too.
