converting from wide 5 to 4 3/4 disc
Right now my truck is wide 5 disc front brakes but I got a line on a really nice 10 bolt disc rear that is 5 x 4 3/4 bolt pattern and was wondering how hard it is to convert the front to 5 x 4 3/4 bolt pattern?
I thought i read it depends on the width of the disc brake rotor. I did some searching but I can't find any information on this swap. So, if any of you know what is needed that would be great. I would post some pics of my front disc setup but it is in another town right now getting body work/paint. I am hoping it is as simple as buying the 5 x 4 3/4 rotors from Autozone and putting them on. Thanks in advance for any replies and once I get the truck back from paint I will post some pics. I am going suede black (not flat) on the body, camaro gold on the top and inside of cab, black carpet/seat/gauges and suede black on the door inserts.

Re: converting from wide 5 to 4 3/4 disc
Here’s a thread that suggests it will work, but is short on details:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=camaro+brakes And post #5 on this post shows a rotor that has been redrilled: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=camaro+brakes I cannot find information where anyone has actually swapped just a rotor to obtain the 4 ¾” bolt pattern. I you find something please post a link, as I’m sure there are others interested in that information. If you have to replace major components like spindles to obtain the passenger car bolt pattern, the savings on the rear axle may not be worth it. However if it’s safe to redrill the rotor it might be. Whether the pattern on your existing rotors can be changed will probably depend on what they look like from the backside. Some I’ve seen have a lot of webbing around the lug studs and would require machining away a lot of material to get a flat spot for the new stud locations. |

Re: converting from wide 5 to 4 3/4 disc
I think someone posted a list of part numbers, etc. for front rotors and corresponding bearings on this forum.
I don't know if this is an option for you, but I already had my rotors when I wanted to go to a 5 on 4.75 pattern many years ago (I had a set of vintage wheels I wanted to run at the time), and it was a lot less expensive for me to machine my existing rotors from a 5 on 5 to a 5 on 4.75 pattern.

Maybe these, but before you lay down your money you might want to find out what calipers they work with.

Re: converting from wide 5 to 4 3/4 disc
Thanks for sharing the link. In spite of several years of random web searches, I've never found anything helpful about putting passenger car wheels on a truck - besides redrilling.

Re: converting from wide 5 to 4 3/4 disc
There was a thread here somewhere where a guys stated that a certain year Impala rotor would fit the truck spindle, and has the 4.75 bolt pattern. But I never was able to confirm what he was saying. I'll see if I can find that thread.

You would stand a better chance of finding a C3 Corvette rotor, which I know is still reproed. Same bearings, but those used a 4 piston caliper, so once again, the caliper fit is an unknown. Also, you know what Corvette parts prices are like. Ray

Re: converting from wide 5 to 4 3/4 disc
One of my club mates clipped his '59 Elco with a Caprice that was 5on5.
His rear was 4.75, so he researched a Z-28 hub/rotor that swapped. May work here, I don't know.

I just stumbled on this link while searching for something else. It's the kit instructions for installing Chevelle rotors on 60-66 series trucks:
