radiator options

Im building a 65 chevy with a lt1 350 and a 4l60e trans. I have a impala radiator from a 96 and was going to use it but its pretty wide and I would have to modify the inner wheel wells to use it. I really want to use an aluminum radiator and still use the stock trans cooler and oil cooler lines with the quick connect fittings from the impala. has anyone done this swap or have pictures. I dont mind doing some modifications I just want to see what my options are. thanks

Re: radiator options

You might take a look at the Summit universal aluminum radiators. They are available with built in trans coolers also. Chiefrocka did a writeup on installing one in his old truck. Here's the thread.....

Re: radiator options

I have one of the cross flow radiators from Summit also. It was a pain to get it mocked in. I am going to get one of these instead. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?Make=Che...=p3286.c0.m282 They are much easier. I would go with the 3 row seeing I have a BB in my truck.

Re: radiator options

I am running a stock v-8 rad in mine and have no issues at all.. flex fan no less.. It is getting twin spals this go round but only to clean up the engine bay.. AZ heat and a high compression SBC never see over 190 temps. even in bumper to bumper traffic.

Re: radiator options

Im looking to keep the stock engine oil cooler lines and trans cooler lines from the lt1 motor and 4l60e trans while using an aluminum radiator with electric cooling fans. it has to be big enough for dual fans because lt1 motor do not use mechanical fans

Re: radiator options

This is one of summits universal radiators. I have it mocked up but never found out what hoses to use. I think the lower radiator hose spout needs to be modified also. This was the biggest one I could fit which I believe was the 27 3/4". I will not be using this.
