Sooooo........how much power can a 7.5 axle take?
How much power (torque and hp) do you think a 7.5 10 bolt can take?
i'm weighing options and trying to go racing as frugally and expediently as possible. In this case i would leave the engine pretty much stock and concentrate on getting the car as light as possible. 1)at 3500lbs. and slicks? a) with spool b) without spool 2) at 3000lbs and slicks? a) with spool b) without spool 3) at assuming i can get the car down to 2500lbs. and slicks? a) with spool b) without spool Last edited by C-10 simplex; 11-25-2010 at 01:00 AM. |

ive seen some decent numbers w/ 10 bolts, just make sure you get c-clip elimnators, cause when they break, theres nothing to hold the axle and wheel in, seen things get ugly fast that way

Re: Sooooo........how much power can a 7.5 axle take?
a 7.5 axle..
to give u an idea g.m. had to make the gears bigger in the late 80's because the 7.5 could'nt take the tpi 305s wopping 220hp and 325ft lb in the f body.. the 350's got a holden 9 bolt after they gave up try'n to get the 7.6 gear to live.. like anything you can make it live, but you'd be better off finding a 8.5 10 bolt.. if you have the 7.5 now, use it and know it will not take much.. and plan on building a replacement.. c clip isn't really the issue, the axle isn't the weak link.. the gears will die before the axles will. and I'd not spend the money adding house'n ends on a weak 7.5 if you want 12 bolt stong, go find a cheap one,, you might get lucky and find a cheap 12 bolt car rearend.. in your width. but you can find a cheap one.. under every ford made with a v8 . it's called a ford 8.8 a carbon copy of the 12 bolt good luck |

If you want it to live find a 9 inch and put a mini spool in it. I would go junkyard hoping till I found what I needed. I ran a stock 28 spline 9 inch and mini spool for years before I upgraded to big axles. This was in my first race car. (67 Camaro)

Re: Sooooo........how much power can a 7.5 axle take?
Not much... As stated they didnt hold up in stock applications. They break the ring and pinion A LOT. Any you pull it yard will have a huge selection of rear ends. Grab a ford 9 inch or even an 8.8 out of something as stated. 12 bolts are harder to come by since they havent been in anything since the late 70's.Around here its 65 bucks at the local u pull it yard for a rear.

Re: Sooooo........how much power can a 7.5 axle take?
1) Which pull it yards have rears for $65? CrazyRay's?
2) In hp and tq numbers how high can i go with a 7.5 10 bolt? a) 3500 lbs and slicks ai) without spool aii) with spool b) 3000 lbs and slicks bi) without spool bii) with spool c) 2500lbs and slicks ci) without spool cii) with spool P.S. 3) Does using, say, a 4.56 gear as opposed to 2.56, 3.08 etc. allow more power to be transmitted thru the rear thus putting the diff under more stress? I would say if you plan on making power try and get a different rear along the way try and sell you 7.5 before it breaks
