Bought a car trailer!
Yup found a great deal on a homebuilt trailer yesterday. Its very solid and well built, only needs re-wiring and new marker lights. Tows so easy and smooth.
![]() ![]() I just got tired of my dolly, and wanted a way to safely tow my 83 Malibu and the gf's 80 Z28. She is psyched that we can now move the Camaro out of her fathers crumbling garage and into my buddys garage. Comments? Objections to towing with a C-10? I am not actually aware of the towing capacity of the truck, but I believe it is around 5,000 pounds. |

Re: Bought a car trailer!
Looks good! That thing will come in handy for so much more than cars, you'll love it!
It'll do fine towing a car if everything is working properly... Just if you do go over the trucks rated capacity, be sure to go slowER than usual and take your time in everything you do, espacially braking. The trailer looks to sit level empty, so when you have a car on it, you may need a raised ball mount so the trailer sits level when its loaded, as it will squat the truck down some. Re: Bought a car trailer!
C10's tow just fine regardless. My Chevy will take much more load than any late model f350, and still not squat. Best towing vehicle I owned...minus the brakes. i suggest an upgrade sooner or later. I believe the towing is in the area of around 9+ depending on equipment.

Re: Bought a car trailer!
Congrats on the trailer! Looks nice and built like a rock.
![]() I would agree with Kenney and at least have on-hand a minimum of a 2" raised ball mount and ball unit along for the ride 'just in case'. Experience taught me it's best to have one and not need it than need it and be stuck without it. Cheap insurance to having a good day. ![]() Only mentioning it because I've been there done that, but only once. ![]() One way to test it is to do a simulation at home with a car before you go pick one up. That may give you an idea how it will work and allow for adjustments. Have fun with it and be safe. Mark ![]()

Re: Bought a car trailer!
I'd change the tires, just to be safe. Those look like old school bias ply tires.

Re: Bought a car trailer!
congrats looks like its built solid, it sits really low which will be good for loading. Does it have springs under it?

Re: Bought a car trailer!
Looks like a decent trailer. Main thing you need to learn if you don't know already. is load the trailer properly. I've seen alot of guys load the trailer tongue heavy. basically putting the front of the vehicle all the way to the front of the trailer. You need to balance the load. once you get that down you be able to tow smooth and easy.
Does that trailer have brakes. If not invest in some. WELL worth the money spent.

Re: Bought a car trailer!
that crankup wheel i think would b better placed in the middle. and for safty the wheel should point toward the rear,if it came down at speed with the wheel foward it could launch the trailer and lift the rear of the truck and cause loss of control

Re: Bought a car trailer!
I bought some new lights and wiring for it, gonna re-do the lighting this week. One marker light on the back works haha, was an interesting ride home from work at midnight.
No suspension at all, except for the tires. The tires are fairly old Tiger Paw radials tho. Aiming to use this thing on Saturday to haul my gf's 80 Z28. |
