8 Lug K20 Rim/Tire Question

I've doen some searching on here to try and find a thread specifically on this and haven't been too successful.

I have a 72 K20 with the original 16 wheels with tires which measure out at 30.5" diameter. What I'd like to do is find some nice 8 spoke (or some style I like) rims to throw on it with a little bigger diameter tire. Hoping to get 32-33" in there. Looking at 17-18" rim diameter as well.

A few questions I have:
- what are my options in terms of searching for rims, eg: when I talk to tire rack or discount tire etc their computer doesn't show rims for those so they can't help out at all but I would guess that say an 85 3/4 8 lug would fit mine as well, I see on here that older ford 8 lugs fit??? What are some examples of other model year vehicles with rims that will and won't fit.

- How much back spacing would I need?

- What size tire can I get away with without rubbing on a stock ride height 72 K20.

Thanks for any input to this.

Re: 8 Lug K20 Rim/Tire Question

I would think that the newer chevy would fit right, so I'd give them the oldest k20 in their system. I think that you could fit a 33" tire in there just fine because my c20 is dropped 3" in front and 4" in the rear and I have 31" x 10.5" with no rubbing. Ford rims will fit but the hub hole is bigger so all the weight rides on the lugs not the hub. I have a set of old ford wheels on mine because they were cheap and they work fine. If buying used I wouldn't hesitate on the Ford, but if buying new there is no reason to not get ones that fit right. Hope this helps you out.

Re: 8 Lug K20 Rim/Tire Question

i have a '69 gmc 3/4 and just put 20X10's on all four corners. i have it lowered 3" in front and 4" in the rear. every thing fits no rubbing. i'm running 275/45/20 which puts my tire height right at 29.5". the back space is 5" on all four. i think just about any 8 X 6.5 would fit. hope this helps.
