1987 Blazer 4x4 to 2wd conversion
Hey guys hope you can help. I have always had a thing for the square bodies. Cant seem to find a 2wd so my only resort is to see if I can convert a 4wd to 2wd. Has anyone ever done this? I am buying on for cheap and want to do the whole porterbuilt treatment to the blazer! Any help would be awesome

Re: 1987 Blazer 4x4 to 2wd conversion
I don't think they made a 2wd after the mid 70's. I don't see why a crossmember change to 2wd could be done . I think you got a great idea. I think a aired out blazer would be sooo cool . I usally don't care for lowered stuff but come on that is got to be cool in anyones book. Do it ! Do it! Jim

Re: 1987 Blazer 4x4 to 2wd conversion
2WD Blazers went away after 82 but there are lots of the earlier ones around; We took a frame from a 81 2wd and dropped a 91 body on it;We used a 90 suburban 2wd powertrain with efi;total time for the swap was about 16 hours ...everything bolted up.
The frame rails are basically the same so you could use your original frame rails and install all the crossmembers etc but it is quicker and simpler to swap frame assemblies. |

Re: 1987 Blazer 4x4 to 2wd conversion
As mentioned they stopped 2wd Blazers in 82. If your going to run a Dropmember, just buy the kit and do it. There is no need to swap frames, just build the one you have. Hopefully Nate will have the rear built for Blazers very soon.
