Not sure what caused that to blow up? Fire burning inside the tire?

Re: how to cut a tire off a rim

If you are going to try cutting the tires off, you have to break the beads loose first. If you don't, you run the risk of damaging the bead seat area of the wheel when you cut the beads.

If the wheels are worth anything, I think I would just pay a tire shop to do it.

Re: how to cut a tire off a rim

You can remove the tires with two tire spoons and some lube, with some practice at home it should take less than 5 minutes, once you get the technique down.

The tire shops should hire that guy, the local tire shops take twice as long, and they are using machines!

Re: how to cut a tire off a rim

Big truck tires are easy to take off with spoons and a tire hammer. Pickup truck tires are always a pain in the butt to do by hand, at least from my experience.

Re: how to cut a tire off a rim

I have taken tires off by lying them on the ground and running another truck over them to break the bead. May have to do it a couple of times but easier than cutting them. If your on gravel careful not to damage them. Im a truck driver and have seen alot of tires changed on a Semi all done by hand. Man do they make it look easy.

Yeh, I do the same. Whenever I buy tires I always take the old ones home with me. No way am I going to pay someone else to give my tires a politically correct "disposal".

Re: how to cut a tire off a rim

I have recycled a few of those old tires in my burn barrel....dont tell! You just need a good HOT wood fire going, & it pretty much burns the smoke. just toss the tire a chunk at a time (after the machete work) Its a little faster to cut em with a chop saw....but you want to do this outside, as it does make some smoke Yes my neighbors love me, but they DO know that I am nuts! crazyAl

Re: how to cut a tire off a rim

Don't know about where you live, but in Arkansas there's a $2 fee/tire that is collected when new tires are sold. There are tire shops that have collection bins (huge x large) that you can throw your old tires in...for free. The shops sell those old carcasses, so it's no big deal for me to use their bin. It's legal, too.

As for tires blowing up.....if you removed the core, there shouldn't be anything in the tire that is capable of blowing unless someone used a propane-based tire inflator that has some residual combustibles that cling to the rubber compound.

But I have had one tire that was ruined by a "tire shop" that used some liquid combustible inside the tire which they lit with a match to make the tire seat on the rim. When the tire wouldn't hold air for more than a day, I had another shop to check it and then found a huge bubble when it was inflated.
